Shifter Questions!

Hey all beloved memeber!

This is the newbie of all questions so bear with me here. I have a 2004 v8 2wd USED (means no owner manual =[) 4runner and on my shifter (or shift gears) there are P(park), N(neutral), R(reverse), 4D, L, 3 and 2L. What are 4D, L, 3 and 2L? What do they do? I drive using L and is that ok?

The selector is as indicated L=1st, L2=2nd, 3=3rd, D4=4th, D=5th. You would want to stay in D as much as possible to get the mileage, 3rd or 4th to pass on the highway, and 1st or 2nd for low speed power. The down hill assist only works in the low range setting on the transfer case.

You should definitely not be driving around all the time in L. Use D for regular driving and shift to L or 2L if you are driving slow and need extra power in rough conditions like snow etc.
