I have a 93 Toyota 4Runner V6, 2WD automatic. Just yesterday it developed a problem. I can't shift it into gear and the shifter is very stiff . If i depress the shift lock release button then that allows me to shift just fine. Has anyone had this problem and if so what should I do to remedy the problem? I did a search and found out some information for other years but nothing for the 2nd generation 4runners. Thanks for all the help.

maybe linkage? i am no mechanic but thats the first thing that comes to my mind.

I have not encountered this problem but if you need pics of the Shifter console taken apart, I have lots...long story
