After a couple trips with the Turtleback trailer, I can say it suits our taste for adventure. The trailer is awesome -- so much better than just tent or car-camping. Hot water, electricity, storage, sleeping above ground, go anywhere -- what more can you ask for?

It looks like an extremely well built rig. They are pricey, in the same ballpark as a new R-pod with a pop-out, which makes the decision tougher. Clearly the Turtleback is considerably more offroad capable.

Yes, we did! It was amazing how quickly the temperature dropped when you approached the fall. Very cool!

Yeah its a crazy phenomenon. We were there in early June and it was still frozen solid. We walked right up the creek to the frozen waterfall. 1

This is an awesome build. Any new updates? By the way, I like your red emblems. Is that red plastidip, or paint? I also have a Desert Dune and thinking about doing the emblems red too.

Thank you so much! No new updates to speak of, other than we're just daily-driving and loving it! Our windshield is cracked and the alternator is starting to whine, so we'll be replacing both this summer. I'm researching alternators now.
The red emblem is just paint, but I believe it's caliper paint, so pretty heavy coats. Take care.

I've read through your build multiple times and your attention to detail is very noticeable and all your images look great! With the images still being down, do you have any additional information about the paint you used for the fender flares. Link for reference: Here

Hi, I fixed the image links in the post you referred to. Thank you for your comments! We used Sherwin Williams automotive paint, mixed locally based on our 4Runner's VIN #. I'd recommend having them do a physical match to your paint (which we did when we painted the hood) because it does fade/change over time. Do you have a SW location near you? Planet Color

You can see in the post photo it's 2-stage -- base coat color plus high gloss clear. The clear is 2-part with a valve that releases hardener inside the can. You have to shake it forever to ensure a good mix, and of course plan to complete your project in one sitting, as there is a short shelf life once the hardener is activated. Jeff used a buffer afterward and the flares still look awesome.

Nice build and really enjoying the adventure pics. How are you liking the compressor? Could you tell me if you powered the compressor through the Blue Sea fuse block? If so did you use a 40a fuse? The max circuit is 30a on fuse block so was wondering how you got that to work.

Thank you so much! This compressor was a good choice for us. We've used it several times off road, and it's usually the first thing Jeff shows people who are interested in the 4Runner. The compressor goes straight to the positive terminal on the battery.
