Shock installation question

I just bought a pair of Tokico Trekmaster shocks for the rear of my 1997 4Runner. I have seen torque specs for tightening the top nut but it is impossible to get a torque wrench up there. How tight should I tighten the nut to compress the bushing? Also the Trekmasters came with a rubber bellows for the shock shaft and a cable tie. Where should I attach the cable tie, top or bottom of the bellows? Thanks.

I put the OME shocks on today. The instructions said to tighten the nut until the bushings begin to compress, then tighten 3 more turns.

Yeah, I just crank down on it....nothing technical.

The cable tie will go around the bottom of the boot.

You probably are already using one, but I find deep sockets are the best way to tighten the top nut, since enough of the shaft will stick through the nut to pop the ratchet out of a standard socket.

Isn't that shock mounting just the best design you've ever seen?? hehe

I find that those boots are more of a problem than a solution. Some folks think they keep dirt out....but, IMO, they keep it in. Those boots aren't water tight...

I always leave them off and have never had a problem...even on my wheeling vehicle (jeep)...
