Shock & Strut recommendations

97 SR5 4x4, 180k miles. Replacing the crappy shocks (OEM replacement) with 70k on them next week.

Looking for a good shock & strut, not for heavy off-road just a good highway and back roads ride.

You guys (and gals) have suggestions??

(Just put a set of Cooper Discoverer HT tires on, to replace my third set of Michelin LTX MS's .... These Cooper tires feel superior to the Michelins. Big surprise, and a happy one, to me.)

Go with Toyota OEM since it'll still ride like stock and last a long time. If you go this route go with the '99 coils so you can get the 1" stock lift and it'll be fine for your needs and they won't break the bank.

OEM would be good. Also, check out Tokico Trek Masters on ebay. They're $199 shipped for all four corners. This is what I'm going to try out.

Tokicos are what the OEM Toyota part is. $199 is hard to beat but just check around and see if you can save a few bucks with the "Toyota" part.

Ok,I just checked on partznet.com and you can get the rears for about $30 each and the fronts are under $58 each for a total of around $176 for the complete set.

Prices have gone up a bit since I paid about $30 less for the shocks but they're still cheaper than the Tokico version.

I'm leaning toward a set of Monroe Sensa-Tracs, because my guy at the shop recommends them and I never do any serious off-roading.

Not against the stock set up (I'm on my second set of OEM's), but the Monroes supposedly have a more progressive valving and thus maybe better overall ride and control. Guess I'll experiment on this round.

$176, but then you have to add tax + shipping, which by then will be equal to or surpass the $199 mark.

The Trek Masters have been tested by numerous people (over the stock suspension) and they say that it is a little bit firmer than OEM, which could be viewed good or bad.

I'll have more info on this when I get mine installed.

hendy - sensatrac's have had good reviews. How much are you getting them for?
