Anyone know what would be a good set of shocks all around that would give a softer ride but yet keep the rearend level or just above as it is now with the stock shocks. They are not leaking at all but would like a little softer ride.

I am in same boat - 138k on 00' sr5 and kyb's are $80 ea for front and $60 ea rear at advance auto

install might be 30-60 a wheel I am guestimating ~5-600

I might also replace some bushings if i go that far, like sway bar and steering stuff

but I am not sure If i am going to marry it or move on to the next something

so many choices

replacement Tokicos will be probably the closest to a soft ride you like. But the choices are endless.

Check out shockwarehouse.com or just search 4Runner shocks here or Google or Yota Tech and you will get a variety of choices and opinions.

shocks don't keep your back end level-you likely have the dreaded 'butt sag" and would benefit from some new rear springs as well.

If you listen to us we will have you lifting while you are at it, as the cost is pretty dang similar to just replacement cost of what you already have.

For example- a lot of guys favor the tall 99 springs to have the stock feel but gain a bit of lift, yet staying within the Toyota offerings.

2000s sit a bit lower as built after the "rollover hysteria" early in this decade, Toyota lowered the stance of our Runners just a bit.

see sticky at top of this very sub forum- "about rear sag" It's almost imperceptible to the naked eye until you know what you are looking for.
