shook violently, then died. what the heck just happened????

okay-- sitting at gas station waiting in line- idling - but not for long. car starts shaking-- not noticeable at first, but then i see the 4wd shifter start shaking, and then i hear it squeeking and shaking --then it dies. awesome. did not re start right away- too freaked out. waited a bit- drove over to side to get out of way and seemed okay- but had it towed anyway- back to shop that worked on it last week. any thoughts? anyone? bueller?

Was there a check engine light?

Was it flashing?

Now that I think about it, there may have been. It happened soooo fast. Kind of shocked. What does the flashing check engine light mean?afraid....

Well the CEL (check engine) could mean 100s of things.

From your post it sounds like you already towed it to a mechanic.

Your description could also be 100s of things so it is not really possibly to make a good recommendation without more information.

Did you take it to a mechanic? I'd recommend finding an honest mechanic as a 1st step.

Also post your city. Perhaps we know one.

Im going to take this in a different direction, but we need to make sure we cover all the bases. Did your electrical instruments all start to flash and go crazy? Did you see blinding bright lights above you? Did they appear and then disappear? Did you, after the incident, find any foreign marks anywhere on your body that weren't there before?
