shops near denton, tx - timing belt stuff

i've been lurking for a while now, and i've noticed that there are a few folks from the area. i brought my 98 limited 4wd v6 147k to a shop recently to get an alignment and check the belts (making a bit of noise at idle). he indicated that the belts look to be original and wanted close to $1300 to replace the belts, wp, arms, seals, etc. i talked to the toyota dealer just south of denton and they said they didn't have a timing belt 'kit' per se, but that to replace the aforementioned stuff, it would be in the $900 range. she said they usually replace the belt, then look at the other stuff and replace it if needed.

from looking around on here, i know $1300 seems way high, and that it seems that a dealer would be aware of the 'kit'. if this is truly the original belt, then it would probably be a good idea at this point to replace the whole lot. basically i'm looking for someone with some experience with these vehicles that can a) determine if the belt is indeed original and b) provide a decent quote and do a good job.

For that much you should just take it to the dealership.

Thanks for the input. Jason came in a bit below 2 dealers I talked to, and got a much better 'gut' feeling with him than the dealer svc departments. Had the radiator changed out, transmission fluids changed, and timing belt +etc. done, and was very pleased at the service and price out the door. I'm sure I'll be back (hopefully not too soon though...)

I live in Denton. If I don't do it myself, I take my truck down to Toyota of Dallas to have it worked on. They have always treated me right and were cheaper then I originally expected. I like factory parts with a warranty on parts and installation.

He used OEM parts, and I would assume provides a warranty - I'll have to check the paperwork. Good to know about T. of Dallas though. It's always good to have options.....
