Shoreline Blue Questions

I normally lurk and learn lots but.....

I'm getting 5th Gen fever again. I'm considering a Shoreline Blue Limited, but haven't been able to see one yet. I've seen the pics owners have posted here and think they look great.

A couple of questions:

1. How easy/hard is it to keep clean? Silver = 1 and Black =10
2. Is it dark enough to show swirls from car washes? I look at one pic and it looks light and then another looks pretty dark.

I have Salsa Red Pearl right now and would answer 7 and yes.

Is Shoreline Blue similar to the Salsa Red Pearl in that way?

I also wonder if I should wait to see if we're going to get any decent end of year incentives. My bet is the '11s will be carryovers. Opinions?

I purchased my shoreline blue at the beginning of june, and just washed it for the first time last night. I have to say when I first bought it, you could see all sorts of swirls under direct sign light, though most of the time I didnt really notice it. After washing and waxing it, i have to say its an absolutely beautiful color.
I don't think its particularly hard to keep clean, though I don't really drive it anywhere that would get it too dirty, mainly just on the freeway to work and back.
I don't regret the color one bit - though the beige and black interior took a little getting use to, but now I like it a lot too.

It's not as dark as the Mag Grey so the dirt tends to blend better, but it's not like Silver or Gold where it just looks dingy. I'm going to go with 6.

But as you noted, so much depends on the reflected light when it comes to SBP. On a bright sunny day, driving on concrete she lights up because the sun is bouncing off the lighter concrete. On a cloudy evening, she looks Mag Grey from a distance. You'll see swirls, depending on the light.

Thanks for your input. Sounds like it's middle of the road for both questions which doesn't sound too bad.

It looks like a great color. I just wish I could see one in person before I decide whether or not to pull the trigger on getting a 5th gen.

Frankly, I'm absolutely loving this color. As noted by other SeattleMike, the thing gets really light in direct sunlight, and then goes darker when the clouds move in. I waxed the front end for the first time yesterday, and then inspected my work in today's sunlight, and everything was perfect. That's kind of my measure of a color--if I put a reasonable amount of work into it, will I get reasonable results? The answer is yes. I have a Titanium RAV4, and that color hides everything. I would suspect that Shoreline Blue Pearl will come close to this, but I reserve judgment until the bad weather comes. All in all, I would suggest that this would register a 3-4 on your scale, but again, I will wait until we get the really crappy stuff to decide. Do not let maintenance stand in your way of this color. It will be fine, and you will love it!
 
I love the color on mine. I'd rate it about a 7 or an 8. It actually hides dust and water spots pretty well till you are right up on it. I havent had it muddy muddy yet (nor do I intend to). It is absolutely gorgeous on a bright sunny day after it just gets washed.

I have the black interior on mine, and I love the color combo. Sleep and upscale....and a little different than the norm.
 
I don't own one, but I've seen it and like it. Like ladywolf said, it's kinda different - but in a good way.
 
I agree with the 6 Mike gave, there is a lot of construction going on here in Oak Harbor so theres always a layer of dust and you have to walk up close to actually see it on mine.

Haven't noticed swirls unless Im 'looking' for them.

I love my chameleon blue, especially at night or near the water. I need to tint the rest of the windows which will increase the sleekness of it.

Thanks again for your insights. It's frustrating how rare this color seems to be locally and not being able to see one IRL. I don't want to order one sight-unseen. There's not one w/ nav in my area right now. I'm trying to decide between SBP and the Classic Silver.

SBP sounds like a color that would work well for me. I typically go through the car wash every 1-2 weeks depending on weather. I'm not particularly anal about it, but I do like to have a clean-looking rig for the most part. I'm looking for something that will handle typical dustiness and not scream "swirls" when you see it from a distance.

Poolzer - thanks for your comments which were very helpful. You should suggest Toyota consider naming the color Chameleon Blue. :boink: I noticed your sig line and SeattleMike's sig lines show exactly what you're saying about light/dark colors according to lighting. It's like they're the same color but they're not.

Ryan, I know what you mean about reasonable results. That's one of the things I love about my Salsa Red Pearl - it looks great after a good wax job.

Toyota hasn't exactly made it easy to decide between the different trim lines this time. Nothing is quite 100% what I'd like to have.
 
I didnt get a chance to see one either other than pictures on here. I still think I had the only one in all of SOCAL, it took over 2 months for them to find one out of state for me.
 
Here's mine - photo taken after driving through a thunder storm in the mountains. It's actually covered w/ road grime and splash back. I'm not super anal about keeping it perfectly clean, but I too like a clean rig when I'm not taking it off-road - and the Shoreline Blue seems to do really well. My other vehicle is a Mag. Grey Lexus and IMO, it looks dirty sooner than the blue.

fx and ladywolf - thank you for the pics. Those are both really hot-looking rigs! I'm digging the darker look in those pics. It almost looks like a slate blue.

If that's the typical dusty/dirty look on that color, I think I'd be happy.

I spent about 6 weeks trying to decide on color, honestly. Silver is the logical low maintenance choice, but lacked intrigue for me. Black looks incredible with the chrome accents, but the 4 Runner black is a pretty flat black and will show everything all of the time. I have always owned a blue vehicle--absolutely love 'em. Dark blue Tercel years ago to an Indigo Matrix. Love the colors, and I didn't mind washing all of the time, but it was the swirls and stuff that I didn't want anymore. This Shoreline Blue Pearl is the perfect compromise between blue and maintenance. Really a dynamic color. I got my plates a couple of days ago, and had chrome TRD frames all ready. Looks absolutely stunning. My ride is officially bad ass, and I love it!
 
Though we sometimes disagree I have to agree with SeattleMike. The Shoreline Blue color may be the best overall color currently offered. It is also a bit harder to find I think. It looks good when it is dirty. My 99 SR5 is Desert Dune Metallic and looks better than any other Toyota color when dirty (and clean for that matter in my opinion). I blends perfectly with the glacial silt we have on all our roads around here.

I would get the SR5 or TE in Desert Dune Metallic if it was still offered (along with a standard transmission). It is unlikely that color would be brought back and even more unlikely std. trans. will be offered. Keep in mind that even though 2011s will be carry overs from 2010 it would be easy for Toyota to offer one or two new colors (like green and a different red) to replace one or two existing colors.

I was thinking about the Salsa Red, but you gave it a 7. SeattleMike gave the SL Blue a 6. I was hoping the blue might make a 4 or 5.
 
I like my Salsa Red Pearl but it does show dirt a little more easily than I care for. It also shows swirls in good light - reds are bad about that for some reason.

Silver is probably my next choice. I like the looks and the lower maintenance. FWIW, I think black TEs look the best of the new 4Runners followed by SLB TEs. Like I've said before, Toyota has made it harder to get everything you want between the trim levels this time. I love the looks of the TE but think I'd enjoy the extras on the Limited for every day use. Anyway, what's up with charging an extra $1K for the nav in the TE?!!

bluebullet - my '96 SR5 was Desert Dune too. It was a great color for all the reasons you mentioned. I REALLY miss that truck. I had 140k on it before a stupid bimbo (sorry but that was indeed the case) in a Land Rover pulled out in front of me and totalled it. I wanted to see how many miles I could get on it.

Anyway, it'll be a great feeling to be 4Runnin' again. :hungry:
