Should I be Concerned?

My '06 Sport has 32K on the clock and I just changed the oil for about the 5th or 6th time. Usually when I remove the oil filter, some oil gushes out and collects in that half cup the filter rests in. Tonight hardly any oil was in the filter. The car had been sitting for several hours before I drained the oil. Just wondering why the difference.

Which oil filter are you using? Have you changed brands or #'s with the one that you just took off? Maybe that one didn't have an anti-drain back feature included or it was faulty.

It was a regular orange colored Fram and I replaced it with a Fram Toughgard. I'm pretty sure that is what I have used in the past and it always had oil in it before. This made me question whether the oil was getting to the filter.

What is the part # of the regular orange Fram you took off (that didn't have much oil in it)? Check the Fram site for specs on that filter to see if it does or doesn't have the anti-drain feature. I'm guessing it doesn't.

Do a Google search on FRAM filters --- the low end ones really get bad ratings. Not much filtering done plus weak construction. There is an old report out on filters too - some relatively inexpensive ones do quite well. If you buy 6 or so via net or wait for sale at stealer you can get OEM Yota ones for same price as crappy FRAMs.

I prefer the older MADE IN JAPAN Yota filters - new ones say Made in Thailand. Can't see any difference in quality though.

They are slightly different, although both are made by Denso. The Japanese version is hard to find in the U.S., as it's pretty expensive relative to the Thai filter or the U.S.-made version (which might be a Purolator). I stick with the Thai myself - only $5 at the dealer.

I have been using the orange filters with the black rough surface on the bottom. I think they are called Toughgard. According to their website, this filter does not have the feature that keeps oil in the filter but the next expensive Fram model does. Funny part is, as I said originally, every other time I have removed filter it has had oil in it. This time, it was dry.

I use the Thailand made Toyota filter, 90915-YZZD3. The Japan made one is 90915-20004, which is installed on the engine at the factory.
