Should I be worried??

What's up guys, so I'm currently working on purchasing a 3rd generation 4Runner, the baby looks sweet and has low mileage. It's a 02 sport with 4x4 and everything looks great, my only concern is the rust. I'm planning on cleaning it up and sealing it when I get it but here are some pics that have me a bit worried... Anyone else think I should stay away??

Man that low mileage baby has been beat!!

Looks like the gas tank shield has seen better days, and being from SoCal that just seems like too much rust!

But as far as rust goes, you will get the gambit of answers, from west coast hell no stay away to rust belt, that ain't bad! I'll show you rust! So I'd poke around with a flathead and see if any of its gone all the way through and if so is it at a bad point, like body mounts and stuff.
Good luck

Edit: just saw second picture, I'd stay away!

I wouldn't buy it fwiw. I'm no structural engineer, so I'd be lying if I said I knew when those joints would fail, but that just looks like an incredible amount of work. Check out runners in the Southwest; Arizona, Californina, New Mexico, and Utah. No rust at all :D

Yeah I keep looking around there but I keep having bad luck or someone beats me to it when I'm about to buy one

Yeah that's what I was thinking but she only had 89k miles, and the price is really reasonable

But this rust has me worried, I mean if seal it but I down that would help specially in the joints

nothing is even remotely close to being rusted through. What you see is mostly an aging surface rust that if left un-adressed, will become a problem.

I would not fear buying that, as long as you grease/oil rust proof the truck ASAP, taking extra care on the rear differential shock attachment brackets, and inside the rear bumper.

You could also factor the rust into the buying price and use it as a lever.

Tentatively yes, a guy was supposed to do a fly n' drive on the 24th, but I had to reschedule because we'll be in So-call for those days. What part of Cali do you live?

I'm in the Bay Area, I was going to reach out to you but I saw the mileage and that kind of turned me away lol
