Should I buy this 4runner? /is it worth the money?

I guess it's a completely subjective question, however I wanted to know how much overpriced these two 4runners are that I found. I really appreciate anyone's input and know that in the end it is my decision. But I'm one of those guys that are indecisive and need other opinions :). '

With that said, I live in Seattle and the X-REAS appeals to me in regards to keeping the rig on the ground and not sliding when it's damp out. I like the 4th gen more then the 5th, mainly because it's less car overall and I know that once I get into 5th gen's i'm looking at minimum $26k Am I wrong to want this and am I wasting my time only looking for Sport editions? I've looked over the forum and have seen tons of differing opinions.

I don't plan on doing any aftermarket to the truck, keeping it stock if that changes anyone's mind about my choice.

Both are 2008 4runner SPORT v6 with clean titles.

(A)- Used 2008 Toyota 4Runner 4WD 4dr V6 Sport for sale near Seattle Renton JTEBU14R48K023756

(B)- Used 2008 Toyota 4Runner at Toyota of Lake City Seattle WA JTEBU14R88K022495

(A)is $22,981 and has 85k miles, (B) is $24,000 has 79k miles AND has an accident on the car fax, albeit at 25k miles.

Both are from the state, so rust is considered minimal (no salt/harsh winters). Both were maintained at the toyota dealerships where they were bought from since new. I will be taking both of these to my personal mechanic prior to purchase and I really feel like I can negotiate them down at least a grand possibly two prior to purchase.

Any input is appreciated, sorry for the long winded post. Definite noob here.

if you have a choice not to buy rig that has had an accident, don't! I bought my 05 with 23k miles for $23k in Mont Lake Terrace so do the Seattle one...you'll be happier...I know know for no reason at all though...
 
I wouldn't limit your search to ones with xreas. When it wears out it is terribly expensive to replace so most people including myself replace it with traditional shocks/struts.

To clarify I believe both are from Seattle. How long does it take for the X-REAS to wear out? Can a Mechanic (i really have no idea) identify if it's close to the end of its life or should I ask him to inspect something specifically. If I eliminate Xreas I will have many more options to go for obviously, it just sounded neat that the truck has such solid suspension.

For what its worth since I am also in the expensive car NW and some people don't realise that the NW car tax is huge, I paid $21,500 for my completely loaded 08 with 82K miles. It has the V8 though.

Brian, 9% right?

I have a local private seller offering me a 06 sport with 105k miles for 16k. I won't give him more than 15 for it, is that still pushing it? It does have JBL and towing package, V8. Not sure if the timing belt has been done yet though.

Leaks would be the only visual way to know. Mine had over 200k miles without any signs of leaking. But it felt floaty and bouncy and unstable. I don't know all the technical side of it but I guess there is stuff internally that can wear out
 
It's crazy up here Mikey. I have looked around but nothing really is that much cheaper +the fact that any car I find I need to have inspected before I purchase and that limits my options for a dealer being too far away..

If this is Choice C then I vote for this. Get the guy to have toyota do the timing belt and pay the 16k.
 
I was in the same boat a few months ago. I was looking for quite awhile and since I'm down in GA even though there are a ton of 4runners a very small percent are actually FOUR runners (4wd..) So I expanded my search and a few good ones came up. I missed one of them but I got the better one which was 06 Sport Edition with about 85k miles for about 16k from Kentucky. So I would say look on Auto Trader and other popular and not so popular sites and you'll find something better and cheaper. Give it some time unless you're in a rush. Don't settle for a rock, wait for the gem.

Choice C would be the private sellers used car. 105k is just a lot of miles for 16 grand.. You know.

With that said there's a SR5 from a Subaru dealer, that has sunroof and leather seating and asking price is $15,988 v6 with 102k miles.

With this car I could go straight into swapping the suspension for the Billstein 5100 and the FJ coils and i would be happy. it's just a lot of miles.
 
100k miles is really not much for these trucks. But I know what you mean I was also searching for <100k just cause i want to be the one to pass the mark lol..

I got my 06 v8 limited for $16.9k 2 years ago. from I5 motors in Chehalis. it had right at 100k miles. was a pretty good deal at the time.

100k miles on a Toyota motor is just broken in, and since the V6 has a timing chain, there's no timing belt to do
 
They both sound a bit expensive to me.

I just bought a 2006 with 100k miles, sport, 4wd and paid $14,800 out the door.

Carfax showed a "minor" accident on the front left side in 2009, but it's had 50k + miles put on it since and still looks factory.

With that said, if it's worth it to you, then pull the trigger and don't look back!

I am located at the Seattle area as well so I know all about the crazy Tacoma/4Runner prices up here.

That's where I got mine, too! Their prices were much better than the ones in the Puget Sound area.
 
Choice A and B are both 23-24k and Choice C is 16k. 8k to play. I wouldn't be hung up on the miles as others have pointed out. New oil and new timing belt you should be good to go for another 100k before next timing belt. BTW original owners are always a plus.
