I am thinking of buying this 94' from a guy I work with. It has trans issues. Auto trans. No reverse and shifts hard in foreward gears. I can deal with getting the trans fixed. When I test drove it today it was totally gutless. I am guessing this Toy should have more power than I experienced today. Not sure of a purchase price yet. We have not really discussed $ yet. Overall condition is very clean. I need to do some more troubleshooting to find the source of power loss. Just looking for advice as I have no experience with these vehicles.

i live over on the north shore of lake tahoe...and my 94 has enough power for me to do "ok" on hills and climbs up roads to different summits...there are little things u can do to boost performance...exhaust...air intake...but u might wanna find anotheer engine to put in there when u rebuild the tranny...maybe the 3.4 V6..or if u seach around here..u can find other engines that that will fit with some modifications...

Jesus god no! Save your money and run. The last thing you want to do is buy a 2nd gen 4runner. That is, unless you enjoy rebuilding engines on an annual basis. If that's the case, then have at it!
I can tell you now that if you buy this vehicle, you'll be regreting it until the day you sale it. The engine is underpowered obviously. There's enough body roll to make you feel like you're out at sea when you turn a corner. Mods and aftermarket accessories are not readily availalble, unless you make your own. The back tail gate sucks -- the 3rd gens are a much better design. In fact, I wouldnt buy anything older than a 2nd gen. Maybe a 1st gen if you want to build a rock crawler....but I wouldn't touch a 2nd gen. I've owned one for 7 years so I know what I"m talking about! I only wish someone had told me this stuff before I opened my wallet.
