Should I Buy?

I have an opportunity to purchase a Silver 04 SR5 4Runner that has 70,000 miles on it for $18,300. It looks and runs just like new!(It should). I'm just having a problem making a decision because it has so many miles on it. Could use some help making the decision.

How many miles is on your 01? is it paid off?

if yours has less miles and is paid off then that question is easy.

keep yours you know the history of yours not one that has racked up 70K in2 yrs. and you owe nothing.

Do the maintenance records on the 2004 model show that it's been well taken care of?? Personally, I'd hesitate to buy without the maintenance records and a Carfax report. Then again, I tend to be rather conservative about that sort of thing....

The one that I have in my avatar is my ex wifes that she got in our divorce. Now I have an 04 Camry that just isn't the same as
having a 4Runner.
On the 04 I don't know what the maintenance record has been but I do know that it hasn't been wrecked or had any touch up on the paint and the inside looks brand new and clean. You can tell how clean a vehicle is by how they look in the door frames, hinges and the vents on the dash and under the seats, all those places are clean, theirs just a little dust. Maybe I just want another 4Runner really bad!

I would be a little hesitant to purchase a vehicle with that many miles on it. It comes out to averaging around 35,000 miles a year, which is 23,000 miles a year above average. My opinion is to run a carfax and look over the maintenance records. Did you try looking for a 2003 4Runner? The 2003 and 2004 models are almost identical to each other.

Yea I would see what kind of records they kept on the truck thats a bunch of miles for 2 yrs. whats the average like 10-12K a year.

70K is nothing for a Toy engine but if the oil was changed every 6K at jiffylube because it was a work truck and the such I would worry.

I bought my 2003 SR5 4x4 V8 (built in 10/02) in June 2005 with 55000 miles for $20,000.

Other than the standard problems (driveline clunk and exhaust smell - fixed via TSB) I have not had any issues and I'm currently at 72K miles.

I did buy it certified from dealer though and was able to get the 100K warranty.

If you decide to buy it, see if you can get the Toyota warranty. $18000 definitely seems like a good price.

You just need to find out what type of miles were put on it (highway, etc.). I believe the average of 12,000 miles/year was from some decades ago. I've read that the average today is 15,000 and rising. [Only a grandma drives only 10,000 miles in a year : ]
We average about 20,000 miles/year on each of our vehicles [mostly expressway].
Use the mileage in your favor while negotiating.

personally, i really wouldn't care what "type" of miles are on that 4runner. 70K is 70K, and that is a hell of a lot for 2-3 years.

I just bought an 03 SR5 about 6 weeks ago and I got mine from a dealer certified with 100k warranty and it only had 41k miles on it and it was only 18,9 so an 04 with almost twice as many miles for only 1000 less seems a little exspensive to me.... but that's just me.
