Should I buy?

A guy I work with has a 98 4runner, SR5, Auto, 3.4L V6, 180,000 miles. The timing belt was changed at 95,000, services around every 3000 w/records. Clean, no: rust, dents, oil leaks, water leaks etc. He is asking $5,000, but may take less. Should I buy. I am not wanting a daily driver since I have a state truck. Just looking for something dependable for a while.

Also how many miles are normal for a 3.4L, I have a Ford with a 300 inline w/ 228,000.

Thanks

I would think that the timing belt might need to be done again soon. If it is that clean I would talk him down some more and then buy it.

I have a mechanic that I use (when I have to!!) that used to be a yota mechanic. He said the same, but would do it for parts + $30/hour. I plan on taking it to him this weekend maybe. Im thinking maybe start at $4,250 and go from there.

i would pick it up for 4,500 since it needs a TB,

its like my car, 4,500 is cheep! i know toyotas sales have gone down 9 percent last month... so they may be getting cheeper

i have 210,000 miles on my runner and know they will go up to 300,000 easy!

what are your plans for it? like a weekend rig?

Grocery getter, hauling future kids, running around when wife's '08 is not here. I know the 4 bangers will go a while, I just wasn't sure about the 3.4L. Are there any transmission problems to be aware of?
