Should I cancel my extended warranty?

Regarding the lift, do you have a copy of the contract? If it doesn't mention a lift or have a clause about vehicle modifications I don't think they can deny based on that.

Another thing to factor is if you would do repairs yourself. If so, most problems can be fixed for less than your deductible. And yes they will look for any excuse to not cover you, and the salesman will lie to your face about it to get his commission.

I ran into this with my stupid home warranty (came with the house). Called them to fix a bathroom vent fan then wait two weeks for the appointment. The guy just pops out the fan and replaces it with a new $20 fan, but I still had to pay the $75 minnium service charge. It would have been faster, cheaper, and easier to just do it myself.

yeah most repairs are done myself, I have access to a lift and all the tools needed to do most repairs. except taking out an engine or transmission. i do not trust myself doing that.

wow that is alot of complaints, seems like they would prolong diagnosing a problem to try to get out of it. i called the dealer that sold me the car, and they told me they did not know it was lifted, contract does not say anything about modifications. so yes, no suspension component would be covered, cv boots, arms, etc. nothing. but engine and transmission would still be covered. BUT reading those complaints, seem like they will bend you over backwards before they agree to paying anything. I can probably repair or replace anything on my car for under $250. So i might end up cancelling this warranty. thanks for your input.

Mine was lifted when they replaced the control arms. Warranty company came out to inspect failed parts due to cost and said nothing about the lift. Dealer mentioned it in passing but did the work.

I would prob. keep it considering the mileage, especially if you don't have a complete maintenance history. If you keep it, don't mention modifications, let the dealer/warranty be the one making a big deal about it. They are required to prove that modifications caused the failure of a covered part if they deny coverage.

They can deny coverage on aftermarket parts (i.e., aftermarket shocks/coils may not be covered), but otherwise they bear the responsibility of proving the aftermarket parts caused the failure of a covered component. (Unless somehow you signed waiving this somehow when you signed the contract, not sure if the warranty terms can change this)

My warranty company also has poor reviews, if you work through a dealer they should have enough weight to get them to pay for it (especially if you purchased it through them)

i called both the dealer (didnt even know it was lifted when sold, i should have known) and the warranty company...they said anything related to the suspension components will not be covered because the "lift" altered the suspension geometry.

The "Not Covered' section doesn't say anything about aftermarket parts, unless there is something in the paperwork you signed explicitly voiding suspension I would fight to get it covered. If your mechanic says a covered part has failed it should be covered.

Also, CV joints are should be considered drive-train, not suspension. A small lift shouldn't cause excessive wear on them.

it's an argument that i probably cant win, i think it says it isn't covered somewhere in the fine print, after dealing with them all morning. they were pretty stern on it not being covered. i am actually going to cancel the warranty this weekend, knowing the fact i can work on my car on my own for less than my deductible.

When I bought my 04 the PO had the Toyota platinum 0 deductible on it. I transferred it over for fifty bucks even tho there was not much time on it. Within weeks of it expiring I had them replace the lumbar motor and wiper stalk. The wipers would sometimes not park and the lumbar didn't work. that was over $800 in charges. I think I've used the lumbar thing maybe twice since. I know the PO used it several times.

You may just make that back in caliper replacements

You have to make the call. You will likely have no problem with such low miles but some people like the comfort of this type of protection. I had a similar warranty and they did everything the could to avoid paying for repairs. I will never buy one again.
