Fixing timing cover reseal

Hi folks I have a 2014 Sr5 with 65,000 miles and I took it in to get the oil changed and they said that it is leaking oil around the seal, which they said was the Timing Cover Seal. They are going to try to get it fixed under warranty. He said the engine would need to be pulled for this to get fixed and 7500 which I will not pay for that. Anyway, has anyone ever experienced this type of a problem? If so, did it get covered under warranty? In not, what did you do?

I'm a back counter partsman for a Toyota dealer, 23 years now. On the back counter, I work directly with the techs and service advisors. I see this on almost a daily basis, as many of these chain motors leak at the timing covers. The 3.5 in the Tacomas are the worst.
If the job is full customer pay, I believe the book labor time is close to 20 hours. There are a ton of little gaskets and o-rings, which add up quickly as well.
What you need to find out is the severity of the leak. If it's just a seep, then it does not need the re-seal yet, and should be monitored and checked at each service.
I really wish Toyota would've never switched from timing belts to chains; so many of these engines end up leaking. Don't get me started on the 5.7 cam towers!

$7500 for a timing cover seal leak??? I had this job done out of warranty for my 2005 4R and paid $1800 for the timing cover reseal, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, and full transmission flush. This was done at about 150,000…I think it was done in 2015 or 2016. currently have 198,400 miles on it. $7500 is highway robbery…even it the warranty is covering it.

Whether its belts or chains, they still have a timing cover. Have 350K miles on a 2014 and no leaks. So definitely prefer the timing chains.

That is outrageous. You do NOT have to pull the motor. You DO have to pull *everything* off the front of the motor (rad shroud, belt, clutch fan, water pump, pulleys, etc) and the valve covers to pull the timing cover.
