Should I get a v8 2008 over a v6 2010-12?

The new body style looks great, but I could always get an 08 v8 for about $10k less and have 2 more cylinders. Does age really deteriorate the build of a 4runner (will i have to initially put a lot of money into repairs) or can I just drive it and do regular service if the miles are low?

Age deteriorates everything, that's just a fact of life. Fortunately, Toyotas tend to stand up to time pretty well. Unfortunately, that also depends on who has owned the vehicle previously. My last two vehicles have been older 4Runners - a 99 V6 that I owned from 125k miles to 180k miles, which ran flawlessly from the day I bought it to the day it was totaled. In November I bought an 03 V8 4x4 with 175k miles. I've put about 10k miles on it so far and I have had 0 problems whatsoever.

Get the V8!

If you have an opportunity to pick up a well cared for (low mileage) V8, take it! You won't be disappointed. I personally like the look of the 4th-Gen more than the 5th...

I would absolutely choose a good condition V8 4th gen over a 5th. I can't handle the lack of power of the 5th gen, not to mention the front end design and it's lack of friendliness for a decent looking front bumper.

In all honesty, it all boils down to personal preference.

1- Is the $10k price difference an issue?? Money is always a top concern IMO

2- How much do you like the body styling of the 2010-2012?? How much do you like the body styling of the 2008? Looks are purely preferential and no one can answer this for you. Also keep in mind that newer cars are going to have new technologies... not sure how important that is to you and I'm not sure what changes there were between 2008 and 2010+.

3- How much do you want a V8? I personally skipped on some great deals on 2007-2008 V8s and ended up paying a $1k more for a V6 Limited 4WD.

If money wasn't an issue, and since I don't want a V8, I'd personally go for the newer model.

I would. V8 plus center differential. The 5th gen only has the center diff on the Limited trim.

If you are towing, most certainly choose the V8. I test drove the new 4R with the 6 and it does NOT have torque.

Very happy with my OEM 205K mile v-8. Motor has done me well since I first rolled it off the lot in 2004. I have used Amsoil synthetic in it and have nothing but good luck and dependability with it. Other issues with the truck~wear and tear items, but the tranny and engine are solid.
