Should I paint my TE Wheels black?

I just recently got a set of not so perfect TE wheels. They came with a few scuffs on the face and a few scratches on edges. Should I just keep them silver or paint them either a satin black or flat black? Their going on my Black SR5, not planning on blacking out any of the chrome any time soon. O and I'm getting 275/70/17 bfg KO's.

Normally I am not a fan of black wheels on a black vehicle, but it looks really good in that photo. I say go for it!

I think the originality of black wheels is definetly over;I say keep 'em stock and get rid of the Camry tires. :biggrin2:

I would suggest getting them powdercoated as it is more durable than just spray paint. But if you want them to last, I would just buy new black rims when you get your new tires. This way, if they do get scratched, you don't have silver coming through I personally think the black looks good.

I don't know if the black would look good. I'd stick with the stock color for now. You can always tape off the area and spray them.

What are you paying for the BFGs if you don't mind me asking, looking to get some on my SR5. Thanks, and I like black and the silver both, can't go wrong with either. Nice pics.

I agree with the originality of black wheels being over, I still like them but I would do something other than satin black.

I would say at least flat black, but I think dark gray wheels look best on black trucks. The black on black is cool if the truck is completely "murdered" out, but with all the chrome on the truck, I think you should powder coat them dark gray. (Think the dark gray TRD wheels on FJ cruisers)

Do it. Black on black looks great. You pretty much have only black, chrome and grey to pick from so I'm pretty sure none of them are played out.

I want to keep my wheels oem, I was planning on getting some mojaves, but I got a really good deal on these TE's. I would powdercoat them, but thats just too expensive right now. I'm going to paint them and if they start peeling after awhile, I'll get them powdered.

I like the look of polished or brushed aluminum but it's a lot of work. Something to consider.

i know you said you don't have $$ for powdercoating, but it's not very expensive and it will last / hold up a heck of a lot longer. i had mine powdercoated and they're still in great shape. before that, i had just spray painted them, and it ended up peeling, chipping, bubbling very quickly.

They have a them on discounttiredirect for like $194 a wheel.

My local tire shop might be able to get it cheaper.

The most legit powdercoating place in town quoted me $150 a wheel, which is more than what I paid for the wheels lol. I can always powdercoat them down the road, this is just temporary anyways.

I think I'm going to do them flat black, this is my first truck and I've always liked the black on black look. So I don't really care if its been played out, if I don't like it, I can always strip them and try the gunmetal.

$150 a wheel is an absolute rip off. I was quoted $35 a wheel.

Your still looking at least $200 to powerdercoat them. You could probably spray paint them for less than $45.
