Should I trade my Platinum Tundra for a '16 LE 4runner?

I bought a Canadian built galvanized 8' ATV trailer and use it with 4Runner all the time. I have this trailer for 14 years and it still looks like new. Only couple of times a needed a double axle trailer and had to rent it.
So if you have a place to store a trailer on your property and do not need to use truck's bed on a daily bases, SUV sounds like a good choice...

I went from a mid size(Tacoma) to my 4Runner and like it going on 4 years now.I do miss the bed occasionally and I know everyone says just get a trailer, but for the few times I would use it the rest of the time I have to store it. I don't want it sitting in my drive way or my garage taking up precious space. So I've adapted to not having one and it's been ok so far. YMMV of course. Funny thing is if I had a P/U I'd be using the bed a lot, without a bed I just make do. So losing the bed can be a big deal or not so big, just make sure your ok with a trailer hanging out on your property constantly.
FWIW, I have done a move to a new place using the 4runner and found I can fit a crap load of stuff in the back with the seats folded down, even furniture. So I guess I'm adapting. Not going back, love the runner. :reddance:

I'm in the same camp as other trailer users. A trailer is just a lot more useful for a lot more stuff than a pickup bed. That said - The only things I really wish the 4runner had would be more power in the lower rpm range and better towing ability. I would like to be able to comfortably tow my fj40 trail rig and the 4runner is kinda light for that task. The tundra would tow it with ease. Generally though the 4runner fits my use better.

After my Tacoma was stolen I had the debate between a truck again or try an SUV. I did use my bed but mostly for camping and some hauling. I went with a TEP w/KDSS and have to say I like it more than my truck. I've had to adapt a little since I don't have the space of a 6' covered bed. It's shorter and easier to park in LA which has helped and the ride is really good. Not that the gas mileage is stellar, but the 4Runner will be a little better. If you don't need a truck and are ok with the V6 over a V8 I would trade it, but really depends on what you WANT since it sounds like you don't really NEED a truck.

Get yourself a good trailer and use it when you need to. Once you get used the turning radius and nimbleness of the 4runner, you'll really like it

I won't have much to say that hasn't already been said, but considering I have both I thought I should weigh in. It really depends on what you're going to use more and prefer to drive. They drive totally different!

I'm a vehicoholic and in the past year I've gone all Toyota:

'13 F150 Screw Ecoboost -> '15 Tundra crew (mine)
'14 JK Unlimited Rubicon -> '16 4Runner TE KDSS (wife's)
'14 Honda Pilot Touring -> '15 Sequoia Limited (our weekend toy and "RV")

Obviously one of the 3 isn't necessary and if I had to get rid of one it would probably be the 4Runner. This is mostly due to 3 tall kids and a dog -- can't beat the room and functionality in a Tundra crew and Sequoia. That said if I didn't have all that to haul around - the 4Runner is a blast to drive! My wife loved her Pilot, hated it when I had her driving the Jeep for awhile, and finds the 4Runner a nice in-between fit.

I have a '13 tundra cm and we just got a '16 4Runner for my wife last week. I like the 4r better than the pilot she had before but it could never match the functionality of the tundra for me. I am 6'6" and I like full size vehicles because I just fit better. But my wife prefers slightly smaller ones. We both miss our 2000 LC we bought from her parents. It all comes down to your needs and what fits your lifestyle but it's hard to give up the 5.7.

From the 2 pictures, the Tundra looks great but the rear seems quit small compared to a F150 or the Full length Tacoma .... What's the point of getting a Pick-up if the space in the back is not big enough ? But that's just me. My Brother in-law has the full length Tacoma and it is like 2 to 3 feet longer than my Runner.

But if I compare both I like my truck a lot more. Comfort and driving wise that is. If I need to carry loads I will either buy myself a trailer that fits my needs or rent one.

I'm not sure what a full length Tacoma has for the bed. But a full size crew cab truck normally has a 5.5' bed which is plenty of room. I can haul sheets of plywood with tailgate down, my 4 wheeler even with my tool box. I put kayaks back there with a bed extender. I can also tow 10,000lbs. The 4 runner can't match that neither can most full size SUVs. I have a 16' trailer if I need to haul a lot or really long stuff but the truck is plenty 90% of the time for me.

I can and have done plenty thanks. Inevitably, it never fails that at least one ******* always posts a stupid, unintelligent, and useless comment which is not only presumptive but judgemental. Ultimately, I will make this decision on my own but wanted to reach out to experienced members who could shed light on their own personal experiences and provide opinions which may give insight to aid in my potential purchase. I assume by your comment that you have no friends because if you did, I am confident that at some point you and your friends would have sat around, enjoying a cold beer while shooting the proverbial shit. While doing so, you share ideas, opinions, and advice which everyone benefits from. Ironically, I am utilizing this forum for the same reason. I'm doing the same thing. I have a 2014 TRD crewmax tundra and I'm trading it for a new TEP I just ordered. Even trade. Any my wife drives a 2012 TE. I'm just getting a good deal and like change. Will miss the ponies under the hood though.

Recently picked up a 16 TE and i love it looking forward to my build and some wheeling offroad.... that being said i gave up my 2009 dodge ram 2500 mega cab .... tons of power interior room and a bed that i did use frequently.... i live at the beach so being able to throw my stuff in the bed and not get the interior thrashed from all the sand was great.... i miss everything about my truck .... but my reason for a vehicle changed and i wanted something more offroad capable hence the trade in. Go with your gut you will miss the power but if that isnt important to you go with the trade .... tundra in moce thoo
