Should i trade?

Hello, i currently have a 97 sr5 i bought from a mechanic i work with. it was his wifes, he got it in 1999 with 35k miles on it. it now has 221k and the only issue it has is valve cover gasket leak. i have put a 3" lift and 285 bfg mud terrains on it and fixed the exhaust. the only thing i dont like about it is its red well kinda pink now. one of my friends wants to buy it for 5200. i found a 99 white limited that looks great. it only has 150k but was a northen car and has surface frame rust and a bit of body rust on the rear gate. its listed for 6k. but i think i can get him down becasue its been forsale for 5 months. should i risk buying it with no history of repairs or maint? or get over the fact mine is red/pink and has alot more miles. btw it is not my daily just a weekend/snow vehicle.

Keep yours. A good 8hrs on the paint will bring the red back. You know the history, and it seems to be in great shape. IMO you'd lose on that deal...
 
I would say keep what you have. You have already done work to it and she looks great. Surface rust is the begining of a big problem and unless you want to go through and take every bit of rust off and then fix and paint everything. Which while also get expensive. Plus you have to do all the mods you have already done all over again. That's more money gone. Not to mention you know the history of the truck and that is huge. We all know these trucks will run till the world ends. So I say keep the Red/Pink 4R and save up to paint her a new color. It would be far cheaper then fixing rust and then modding all over again.
 
I vote keep it too. My number one priority when shopping for toyotas (and I have owned many) is rust trumps all other factors. I'd rather have a 300k truck with mechanical issues and not a speck of rust than a 100k truck with frame rust or rusty rockers.

BTW, I have seen some pretty impressive restorations of faded red paint just by claybar, polish and a crap-load of elbow grease.

and you will turn out with something like this



that is fresh paint on the hood and using that polish on the whole truck!

Getting rid of rust is a hard proposition. It invades nooks and crannies you can never get to and will continue to spread like cancer. MUCH easier to prevent it. Love what you have and put your money into some nice mods to make it last forever.

I touched on it in my build thread but I will do a more in deep write up but will take a few days because I'm work Alot this weekend

Definitely interested in your write up too. I've detailed a lot of cars in my younger days but there are so many more products out these days I'd love to know more about what you did. It looks great. I want to clean up my 740i before it hibernates for the winter.
 
We'll guys i did it. Not the one I posted but a guy I know had a 1999 limited desert sand with silver. 2 years newer 15k less miles and interior is in better shape. The back bumper has hit everything but the lottery but I want a cbi anyway. The left headlamp is broken as well. It need valve cover gaskets but no biggie. I traded even and kept my 285s I know I have no idea what the history is but I flushed the tranny the axles and t case. All the fluids looked ok so I think I made a good trade up. Plus real cup holders is great
