Should I Wait?

I have a deposit on a 2019 Off Road Premium, Super White w/o Kdss couldn't find one in my area. It should be coming into the dealer this week and now I am having second thoughts on waiting for the 2020. This would be my third 4runner my previous was a 99 with the taller springs.

I got it for $37,300 out the door. I have already bought all the xenon depot lights to replace the stock with HID low beams, yellow LED fogs and LED Highbeams.

Would you guys cancel the deposit and wait?
Thank you

It looks like you got a great deal on the ORP, based on those numbers agreed price was probably under $35K before taxes and fees. Impressive.

My decision somewhat mirrors yours. Do I take the deal on the 2019 or likley pay full MSRP on a 2020? For me, the added tech makes waiting worth it. I like the Toyota driving safety features and the added 8" screen is finally here, years after it should've been. Because I plan on keeping the truck forever, I figured the added $3-4K Ill pay for the 2020 is worth it.

The 2019's will probably be dropping even more in price now that the 2020 has some new features that people will want. Can you cancel the order and wait a little while longer instead of making a quick decision? That way you can wait until the 2019 price drops even more.

Personally, I'm waiting. I was in the same situation as you. Ordered a ORP with KDSS but canceled it due to the announcement last week.

depreciation will still be good even after the 6th gen is here, it's not like the value will suddenly plummet

I like that stuff too, but my only concern with the driving safety features if how it reacts once you start to modify the truck… like when lifting it, adding a bumper...

Not sure if it should be a concern.

Toyota kinda shot the dealers in the foot. My dealer has more 4runner than they have ever had and I doubt they will be all sold when summer hits. Great deals to be had just walking in even on the trd pros but with nearly 20 4runners on the lot...

My feeling is that Toyota is going to go big on off road functionality (not TRD stickers) actual capability in the next 4runner.

Maybe its just wishful thinking but thats my thoughts.

Either way it's a win win for you if you wait.

You either get the next best thing or a great deal on the best of the last generation.

My vote is WAIT!

That's a real concern for people that want to modify right off the bat. My mods will remain limited to a beefier lift and bigger tires (post warranty). Good luck OP!

I figured as much… if I was buying I would probably opt for a better deal on the 2019.

I know you said you will be waiting on mods till after warranty, but based off your avatar, you might want to consider getting a snorkel sooner than later.

Funny the best snorkel in the world couldn't save my tuck from what hit it. You can prob figure it out by my location. I miss it every day. V8 too! (Kept the wheels for whatever that's worth)

I've been thrilled with my 5th gen. Sign the papers and get your goodies installed.

This can actually really hurt resale if people hold off and 19s are still on the lot.

I don't think you can lose either way. There are always pros and cons for every update, and this will be no different. It looks to me like the trend towards incorporating more tech while dropping engine power (to increase mileage) will continue. Personally I don't care about push button starts and larger nav screens if the engine is smaller... with the '19 you already know what you're getting and that you like it, and for a great price to boot. A bird in hand, as they say...

Umm....look at the newer features on the 20 and then decide if you want them. If yes, wait. If no, don’t.

Do you like it? If so, drive it. It's not like it will depreciate and you won't be able to sell it later. What are you missing out on, CarPlay/Android? Get an aftermarket HU installed.

@row wow, that's less than I paid for my non-premium Trail in 2016. I was paying Maryland taxes then, but still. Neither decision is bad. If you can wait, I say great-that gives you more time to plan your build and maybe have more cash on hand. The new entertainment UI sounds nice. If you don't want to wait, that's a great price on a great vehicle. Good luck.

I'm in a similar-ish boat, and I think I'm hanging on to my 04 until the 6th Gen. It really just depends on what you're feeling you might catch FOMO over on the 20's. If it really is just the updated infotainment system, then I think you could just get an even nicer HU. If it's the other stuff that you can't just add, then it's a tough call.

I had a similar FOMO experience with my '16 Golf R and the '17/18 Golf R's, so I'm not going to repeat that and I'll be waiting for the 6th Gens.

As an aside, I think there are real questions regarding lifting and modding with the new radar controlled stuff. I know from the Golf R's, wheel alignments become more of a big deal with the radar controlled stuff, and I can only imagine what a pain that would be on an off-road rig where alignments tend to be needed more frequently.
