Show me your auxiliary Fog or Driving lights!

I know where they would go, I just don't know how you would support them there.

I thought about that spot, but only saw plastic to support the lights.

I took a look at my bumper the other day, and found that the chrome bumper has a lip in that area that I could mount the lights on....oh! and there is already some some small holes drilled out, so all I'd have to do is drill them out a little bigger.......:trophy:

I have 8" Eagle Eye 100watt off road lights on top of my custom bumper. And 4" KC 55watt foglights inside the bumper. This somewhat inexpensive setup works really well for me. I get good long range from the off road lights and good side light from the fogs. You need a custom bumper.

Very nice setup! Unfortunately, not what I'm looking to do.....as much as I like the off-road bumpers, it would be a bit of a waste on my truck. I don't wheel it that much, and can't justify running the extra weight up front......If I had a black rig, and wheeled it a whole lot......DEFINATELY WOULD GO THAT ROUTE! arty:

OK! OK! I guess not many of you like my lightbar! HA HA!

So, I decided to get to work on removing the Lightbar, and fab some mounts up for the lights.

Here's a pic of my current setup:

I'm working on making some "L" brackets, and mounting the lights to those. I took some old Curtain rod brackets, cut them down and drilled some holes for the mounting points:

Here's one finished mount:

I still have to copy it and make the other mount, then I'll be ready to mount the lights up.

Judging by what i see with the lights mounted, looks to me like they are protruding from the bumper a good 1/2" atleast, leaving them vulnerable to impact. I know recessing them means you're gonna have to trim away part of the valance but IMO it will look 100x better.

That's what I'd do for a more factory look..again just my thoughts.

Alright, so I took Blckpgsr's advice, and cut some plastic out of my valance. I'm really hoping this works out, because I can't turn back now! Ha ha ha!

I still have alot of work to do, such as cleaning it up, and adding some trim around the cut plastic, but it's coming along!

Fightman80- Lookin good and glad to see you went with the counter sunk idea. It works a lot nicer for aesthetics and functionality.

I don't have offroad lights yet and want some advise. I want 6000K HID to match the headlights. They will need to be at least 6" and have a good sollid pattern.

How about these?

Only downfall I found with them is that they claim to be "Euro Beam" which from my understanding will have the cut off angled pattern, no good for off road. I've e-mailed the seller and manufacturer with the question.

I'd have to agree with Clemsonfan.....you could buy some cheaper housings, and retrofit them.....that's what my plan will be once these bulbs die.....

BTW, those lights are upside down, because that is where the mounting bracket is on these lights. They were free with my light bar, and actually work pretty well, so kind of a waste to replace something that's not broken....

I hear ya. Is the light pattern the same? Any chance of water getting in and not being able to get out?

Seems like that would be a good place to mount lights if you didn't want the holes to show.

Alright, so I wasn't going to show you guys this, until I was done, for fear of being the butt of a joke, but I can't wait!

After I dry fitted the light housings into the bumper valance, I wasn't really happy with the finish. I had cut away too much plastic, and it just looked bad! So I got thinking.......most of the new trucks with lights in the bumper valance, have them mounted into light pods. These pods, are basically extensions of the valance that act like little tunnels, which the lights are mounted inside. After going to the parts store, and looking through every aisle, I went home empty handed. But then when all was looking bleak, I found what I needed! On my work bench.....a collection of plastic Margerine containers! I took 2, cut out some plastic to allow for the light housing mounting point to stick out, and then Voila!

Now, I know what you guys are thinking......but once I coat them with rubberized rocker guard, and mount them into the valance, they will look sick!

Stay tuned for the finished product!

Alright, so here it is. I finally finished painting the light pods, but here are some pics of the fit and finish of the lights without the pods:

Now, here's a pic of the light pod, and the light housing together:

Here's a pic with the lights all assembled and installed:

You'll notice that the lights point a little upward. I purposely did that so that they would light up further ahead in the road.

Although the light pods and lights are installed, I still have some detail work to do, but that will have to wait until spring. I'd like to smooth out the valance, and fill in some of the holes, and then paint the light pods/valance to match the color of the truck. The weather is getting to cold to start painting stuff, so that will have to wait until spring.

looking good, id say lower the angle of the lights a little bit. they will still throw plenty of light down road. but thats just my opinion :thumb3:
