I'm looking to replace my factory head unit with something new.

Want a little more power and some cool graphics/equalizer displays.

Not looking to break the bank and install a 7" touch-screen or anything crazy like that (for now).

anyone have any recommendations / pics of what they put in ??

I really want a double-din sized unit (I can't stand those damn pockets)!

check out the sound system link on my sig. my HU has cool graphics, but i wish there were more. i'll try to get some picstures of them. it's a kdc-x879. $400 i got it because it was close to double din when opened. lots of funtions.

It works well for me, has AUX input so you can hook up like a cd changer or something like that, it has 750 some odd color options for the backlight (which I like because I wanted one that didn't stand out much, so it's black which fits and the backlight completely matches the stock orange backlight).

has cd / mp3 function... mp3 CD's are amazing on road trips..

cost about $350

(also has very good controls for extra subs... I have 2 12" visonik subs that I control with them, well I control the amplifier that then controls the subs)

also, the extra slot comes in handy for me when storing extra CD's and my parking pass, other then that it has no real practical use. If i can find a radar detector with a mountable display I may try and fit it in the slot, that was my original plan

Nothing really extravagant, but here is the Kenwood setup in my 96 SR5. Kenwood HU and EQ with a music keg, and PDA running tomtom navigator.

Thorton, I have the same EQ as you! Well, I did, it's now in my garage since my new HU (in my Corolla) has a parametric EQ built in.

I like it pretty well. It was much more practical before I decided to sell my subs though. If nothing else it looks better than the factory tray thing to take up the extra DIN slot.

I really like that setup and am wanting to do something like that myself. If you don't mind me asking how much did you pay for that system? If you don't want to post it in the thread fire me off a pm. Also, can the navigation screen double as dvd (if I slapped a dvd player in glove compartment)? I've been looking at the new Eclipse navigation system but it's a little pricey yet. Thanks!
