Gator, is there a writeup on how you set up the wiring for the FJ switches?

I was going to just buy relays and set it up myself, but figured I'd ask when I saw how many you had used. If you used your own relays, what pins on the switch did you connect to?

The roof light switch works differently and to be honest I haven't figured out how to make it work so that light comes on when the light is on. It's coming on when the switch is off and going off when the switch is on. Otherwise it works fine, I'll figure it out one day when someone figures out a way to increase time.

Best thing I've done to my 4th gen is the dash light mod. Changed the look completely. I then put in a double din head unit with selectable colors.

On the surface mine looks pretty much OEM aside from white LED backlighting w/ reverse LCD film, reverse mounted sub and the CDA-117 Alpine.

Clean and stealth.

Red is the color that supposedly effects night vision the least... This why it's used onboard navy vessels in the pilot house from sunset to sunrise...

As a long-time red dash light owner in my previous cars, I personally find that it causes me less eye-strain or fatigue. Definitely unscientific, but I know that my eyes personally like it better and forum guys agree from what I have read. And after seeing [MENTION=50591]gaterose[/MENTION] 's setup, I'm sold sold sold on this idea for the new-to-me 05.

Which DIY did you follow, if any? The one with soldering/aiming the LEDs? That sounds too much like work, I'm hoping there is a plug n play option/DIY out there.

Soldering is the only option for the instrument cluster, I got the LEDs from superbright LEDs for about $24 shipped. For the switches and HVAC controls I used bulbs from Lightsource [MENTION=67365]Whitebeauty[/MENTION], it wasn't as expensive as you'd think. I believe all bulbs (switches and instrumentation) were around $40-50, though we did a bit of bartering for a satoshi grille I made so that price may be wrong.

Bummer about the soldering. I've been hit or miss (mostly miss) with that personally in the past. I'll look over the DIY again.

ive been thinking of something similar when i install my amp.. i want it out of the way, but im worried about it overheating being that concealed since i live in 120 degree heat ..

also, how do you like that ed e3.8?

If you're worried about heat you could always vent the OEM trim panel or add a computer fan to circulate air back there. As for the e3.8, I love it. Never thought twice about swapping it for something else. Problem is elemental design went belly up due to terrible mismanagement so you'd either have to find a used or old stock unit.

It's the Scosche kit that sits flush. I think it was model TA2042B.

Did you custom craft your bike rack or was that a purchase? I'm looking to just carry bikes inside as well, versus on the roof. If you have a link, let me know...

Reverse polarization looks good on the HVAC panel! Did you do the 12v mod? I've been wanting to do the reverse film on the ODO (cluster), that doesn't seem to be a problem, but the HVAC, well, many have said doing the mod REALLY dims it, but your pictures look pretty good.

I custom built it. Nothing fancy but it works great and bolts into nutserts i installed on the backside of the double decker panel. Custom bike rack writeup

Thanks! I have yet to do the 12v mod. I'm about to swap it all over to Red backlighting so I'll try the 12v mod when I do the color change.

It's definitely more dim than stock but unless it's high noon I can see it well enough. at night it's perfect.

Super sound system

So I am in the process of getting ready to do my sound .. I have the stock jbl nav .. Upgrading a lot .. I will be posting pics along the way as I install .. I am gonna try and put the new alpine INE-Z928HD .. Which I know is a 8" so it gonna require some epic dash trimming on my part . My front stage will be a dynaudo esotec 3way with 8"/3"/1" tweet .. Which I saw someone put in the 1spot so I am totally stealing your idea ! (It's was pretty awesome) my rear stage will also be dyna 7"with a 1" powered by jl audio 600/4 hd @150 rms .. I will be using the factory pocket where the 8 usually goes and installing a alumapro alchemy rx12 .. Powered by the jl 1000/1 hd these amps are small and stack so I should be able to hide them both behind panels ... I will also be working a alumapro 20 farad Capp in somewhere as well as 2nd small gell battery tucked under mounted sideways ... Copusous amounts of dynamat will be in use ... I will update with pics deck is the first step ..

Also, it might be worth mentioning to people that don't know what to search for... but, I found the parts on Amazon. Looks like it's called a "clutch" or "fork mount". I found a Delta Bike version for $18. Looks to be the one pictured in kevinpt's post with the center red stripe. It's basic, clean and simple. Rocky Mountain has a more solid looking one that's better looking, however it's $23 and non-locking.

Also, the assembly to mount your front tire is called a "wheel hitch". A Delta Cycle version is available on Amazon for about $14.

Just wanted to share the names of those products, since searching online can be a pain if you don't know the exact name.
