What saddens me most is all the light bars I see on trucks WITHOUT an HID projector retrofit. A FAR more useful modification that costs less, and is legal to use on a daily basis. Just shocking...

The square LED pods I have are $20 for a set. A lot cheaper than HID projectors and my headlights don't look like bug eyes.

Depends. I actually took my retro's out. I couldn't get them to aim for anything. Great road coverage, but spread to the ditch was horrible, and running county roads at 5am going to work, I need that ditch coverage. My light bar fills that need, and well at that. May have been the Amazon projectors, I dunno, but I wasn't going to pony up 400 bucks for the retro when I wasn't completely unhappy with the Extreme Vision Plus'.

Can I see how you mounted the lights underneath your runner?

Sure. Copied from my build thread:

I used 9 lights for each side of the truck located like this:
- 1 near the front body mount in front of the front tire.
- 2 in the front wheel well.
- 1 just behind the front tire.
- 1 midway between front and rear tires.
- 1 just in front of the rear tire.
- 2 in the rear wheel well.
- 1 near the rear body mount behind the rear tire.

As you can see, this gave me a fairly nice even distribution of light all around the truck.

The mounting varied depending on what I was attaching them to. I bought a roll of metal strap with the holes in it. Its the stuff plumbers/electricians/hvac guys use to hang pipe/conduit/ducts from unistrut. I basically cut a short piece of the strap and bent it to fit where I needed to mount it (it bends really easy, but is stiff enough to hold its shape). I used a small bolt and nut to attach the rock light to one of the end holes in the strap. I used another bolt/nut in the other end hole of the strap to mount to the truck (where there was an existing hole in the truck to use). In some places where there was no hole (wheel wells) I used drill point screws to attach the strap to the truck.

yeah, its probably cause most of us "non retrofitted" guys don't want our truck looking like this... :snacker:

My LED's are brighter than any HID's on the market. Also, I live in South Carolina and not some democrate/communist state that can tell me what lights I can and can not run on my car/property at night. I mean dag bum, I have 6" slim LED bars that I built into the filler panel under my head lights wired into my DRL and have never been pulled over. zrunner your lights look clean. See the pictures I attached for an example of the bug eyed look. My 4runner is an off roading machine and not some rice burner. Maybe you whould have a ricer burner a lot of them look like bugs now and come stock with HID's.

I was in 4Wheel Parts today looking at some lights to get ideas for what to do. I was told the light bars across the top of the windshield create a lot of wind noise.

Have any of you noticed this?

Personally if it was me, I'd only mount one to a roof rack so it could be removed if you changed your mind on it. Once those holes are drilled..you can imagine the rest. I also don't know the laws in your area but here in VA you'll be getting stopped quick for a light on top. In the bumper is a little more subtle. Just my opinion.

Besides that, they do look cool on the roof and put out a jank ton of light!!! I would imagine they do have a bit of wind noise but nothing horrible.

My plan was to also install the roof rack for the exact reasons you pointed out. I just didn't want to go to the expense if it was going to be noisy. The guy at the store made it seem like the sound would be akin to a police siren.

Since someone brought this thread back up, I'll contribute a pic of mine. This is just to show the single row of LED's under the headlights which is otherwise wasted space. I used Rigid Industries single row with 6 LED's.

Had to trim the bumper and valance a little bit , but yes it fits pretty well!!

How did you mount it? Trying to do the same thing myself but confused with options / fabrication necessary
