Shrockworks 5th Gen Rear - Round 2

Hey everyone. I wanted to go ahead and let you guys in the loop on the fact that we are heavy in the design stages of a redesign on our 5th Gen rear bumper.

I was going back over our original thread from our previous design and trying to make sure we nail the popular demand for the features in this product. I just wanted to run over some of them with you guys. Here are some of the high points noted from our last stab at this.

-Improved departure angle

-Most wanted the jerry cans lowered and the the tire offset to accommodate.

-.....and for god sake, make room for the GOBI LADDER!

Now, for some visual assistance. I'd like your input on two different rack styles. For reference, the tire in the models is a 33x12.50.

Style A: This is the original rack that we designed for the 5th Gen rear. Centered tire mount. Ability to mount 1, 2, or no jerry cans as a bolt on option on either side of the tire.

Style B: This is a rack style that we use on our 3rd Gen rear. Tire mount is offset to the Passenger side. Also has the ability to mount 1, 2, or no jerry cans.

This set up mounts the jerry cans down lower and more even with the tire. when running only jerry can it can be laid flat against the rack tucking it in tighter and closer to the vehicle, but when 2 cans are mounted they have to be mounted on edge, side by side.

Also, here is a shot of it as a rear bumper only. The bumper is tucked up literally as far as possible and sits against the bottom of the frame. The receiver will be optional, and mount in the same manner as the OEM hitch. So, unless you cut off the end of the frame there is absolutely no way you can gain any more clearance out of a rear bumper on these trucks.

Ah Justin... You know my preference... A robust version of option B... Tire toward the side... Most likely select a single Jerry can to keep things nice and tight. You may also want to show a picture of the current version with the cans.

Working on a model of it now.

Here would be my thoughts:

- Install without having to cut up the stock bumper at all, just a pure bolt on
- Have an option to move the tire/cans to the sides more so that the backup camera can somewhat work still (obviously peripheral vision has to be hampered but strait back not so much)
- come with that high lift mount, because that is awesome!

All, I do believe the redesign will accommodate the ladder either way. My issue with design a was how the Jerry cans were mounted.

Liking those tapered/multi-angled corners! Style B for me.

- Bumper modifications will be mandatory. There really is no way around that unless we replace the ENTIRE bumper shell, bringing on board a whole mess of unnecessary weight.

- OEM back-up camera will not work with a tire carrier. Your only option is to purchase, mount and wire an aftermarket camera that would mount on the rack somewhere. Back-up sensors will also be an issue with the tire carrier. We should be able to maintain the two outer ones in the bumper wings, but the only place to mount sensors in the center section with the swing out in place is on the lower angled face of the bumper, pointing them at the ground and rendering them useless. Bumper only versions will likely be able to retain all 4 back up sensors.

- Hi-Lift mounting will be a standard option on both racks.

We are trying to decide which style would be preferred by the majority, and will be offering one or the other. Not both.

Definitely a fan of option b. The cans are to high and protrude way to far on A. ... Alas. I'm just 1 opinion.

Question... Option A seems more stout in general design... Wondering if that 'stoutness' can come to B?

I like option b but I'm wondering would it be better to reverse the positions of the tire and the jerry can holder so the tire is on the driver side. I might be wrong but it seems like visibility would be less impacted if the tire was placed there

I think most keep the tire on the passenger side near the hinge due to weight and usually don't hinge the drivers side to keep the swing out of traffic. Might be wrong though.

My vote is for B. Are you going to be test fitting on an SR5 and trail? I know a couple guys with non trail runners had fitment issues with the CBI rear.
