Side airbags, do you turn them off?

I was reading DesmoST4's thread and a few others. I have been thinking about the fact that the number of T4R's with side airbags is going way up. Beginning in '08 they were standard and they continue to be standard on the 5th gens. In the early 4th gens w/ side airbags there was one or two inadvertent deployments while 4wheeling.

I am just curious, how many use the RSCA off switch regularly?

The "Most times..." choice was worded that way because I sometimes forget. Usually within a minute or two into the adventure I remember...

I always turn off RSCA when I go wheeling.

One member w/ a 4th Generation had his RSCA deployed. From the looks of it, I've crawled over stuff way taller than that.

RSCA off gets reset after you shut off the car...so I don't always remember to turn it back off.

Too bad that member's picture doesn't show up anymore. I also PM'ed him, but haven't heard from him.

I did see that thread... That's kinda why I started this. We have many new members and it's been a while since this has been brought up. Hopefully people will start thinking about this and nobody will have to go through what that other member went through... olice: IIRC it cost serious money and Toyota wouldn't pay and because there was no 'damage' insurance didn't want to pay claiming they deployed due to a system failure.


I wish the RSCA switch worked backwards in 4lo for the reason you mentioned; I sometimes forget to turn them off after a quick break. I'd like it if you had to arm them in 4lo. In most scenarios I can think of that'd be a better way to wire it. In 4lo most of the time you want the roll sensing aspect of the system defeated.
