Side airbags???

Hey guys! I am a new user so I apologize in advance for my ignorance. I am trying to find out if my 2004 4Runner SR5 has side airbags. I purchased this vehicle preowned and am ordering a leather interior kit for it and need to know if it has side airbags. Any help would be appreciated. I do not have the original sticker and was hoping there is some way to look at the interior and tell whether or not it has the side airbags. Thanks!

First, you can look at the side of the front seats and see if they have a little tag that says "SRS Airbag." You can also look on the front pillar (where the other assist handle is) and see if the little round insert says "SRS Curtain Airbag." You can also look in the back, just above the seat belt, and see if it says "SRS Curtain Airbag." If you don't have them, there will just be a small round insert in place.

No, it appears I do not have the side airbags on my SR5. On another note, this forum is amazing I have spent hours browsing around. This is my second 4Runner and I never thought I would like is as much as the 2000 4Runner I had before this one, but I am going to have a blast modding this out.

Thanks!

Hi All,

I am new to the forum and trying to locate a 4th Generation 4runner with side curtain air bags. From reading past posts, it looks like standard on 2008 and newer models. I am wondering if anyone has an actual picture of how to spot a 4runner with side curtain air bags. I have read that you have the look at the A and C pillars and that there is an airbag symbol on the back of the front and passenger seat, but i am having trouble actually seeing a picture of what people are talking about. I am more visual and this would help me out big time in my search for a car with side curtain airbags so i am not second guessing whether or not a truck has them or putting faith in the seller to be honest. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Couple of ways to find out for sure.

You can check the row of up to 4 switches to the left of your steering wheel. If you have the side curtain airbags you'll have a switch here for turning them off. It's labeled RSCA Off, more info on this thread: What does the RSCA button do?

Other option is to remove the A pillar covers, you'll see the airbag there if you have it. Remove the two snap on covers on the handle and remove the 2 10mm bolts holding the handle in place. Then you can pull the cover up and out.

Side airbags became standard in 08. Before that, only limited's had them, and certain sports.
