If you go to the toyota website and build your own 4runner, it does not let you have the option of the side curtain airbags with the leather seats.

You could get side curtain airbags on the Limited, which has leather seats. If you want leather on the SR5 and Sport, it is port installed leather. There is an airbag in both front seat so that may cause a problem.

Like Mark86 said, the side airbags have components inside the front seats. The leather has to be factory-installed with the airbags built-in. This is only available on the Limited.
You can't mix port-installed or aftermarket leather seats with side airbags.

Not sure whether the supplier for the port-installed leather has compatible leather seat covers, but it is totally possible. Classic Soft Trim makes kits specifically for SR5/Sport Editions that have the side airbags. If you're really content on having both, get one with side airbags, you can always add leather in later.

You can get side curtain airbags in any model of 4Runner you want. The only problem is that Toyota only ships 4Runners to areas with certain options packages installed. I live in Massachusetts and there are no 4Runner sports that have been shipped into New England with side curtain airbags. Luckily I managed to find a dealership that was willing to order one for me. The only problem is that I ordered it in the end of march and I am still waiting. So if you are willing to wait to get it you can order one from toyota with whatever options you want

When I purchased my 05 SE V8 I wanted side airbags. At the time I lived in Ohio and could not find an SE with side airbags in the area. I located one in Denver, CO and flew out there and drove it back.

has anyone got the dealer to change the cloth seats to leather when you have the side airbags? Will the dealers kit allow for the airbags to deploy? I'm asking this because I'm buy a 4runner with cloth seats and side airbags but plan on getting them changed to leather. Thanks

Check out Classic Soft Trim. Check the pattern selection drop down and the drawings will show certain ones designed for side airbags. Some members here have stated their dealer used CST as the contracted installer for their post delivery leather.
