Side Exit Exhaust ?

I drove home today behind a 2007+ 4Runner. I know it was later than 07 due to the LED taillamps.

I noticed that the exhaust pipe pointed to the right side vs. mine exiting straight to the rear. When did this change?

Aftermarket. I have a 2008 and it goes straight out of the back.

Something like this...

Kinda funky. How did it look????

Sometimes I wonder if exhaust gasses get sucked back into the 4runner when I drive around with the rear window down and the sunroof open? Maybe side exit exhaust would limit that? If it happens? Heck, maybe it just looks better. Hehehe.
