Side Mirror Glare

Does anyone have problems with the amount of glare coming off headlights at night from the side mirrors? (The auto dimming mirror is great by the way!) It might just be the position that I have the seat and the mirrors setup, but it only happens when I drive this vehicle.

I do have my sides windows tinted, but that doesn't seem to help reducing the glare from the mirrors. I do remember that some German vehicles have blue tint to the mirrors, so this brings me to a possible solution... Will tinting the side mirrors be sufficient in reducing the glare, or is it more complicated than that?

I don't think you can tint them and expect it to hold up. Tint scratches relatively easily, and your mirrors live outside... Honestly, coming from a Titan with ginourmous tow mirrors my 4Runner is a welcome relief. Tint on both BTW. I think your stuck with trying some different seat/mirror combos...

I came from a heavily tinted FL vehicle and jumping to the 4R the glare did bother me, then again it bothered me in any vehicle I drove that did not have tinted side windows. I don't drive much at night plus I think I have gotten somewhat accustomed to it by now as well. Planning to get them tinted soon (hmmm I keep telling that to myself but it does not happen, maybe I will have to get 'Awynt' to smack me with that antenna he removed if I don't actually do it soon! :bash

Tinting the mirrors does sound interesting, not sure how it would really work though, anyone done that before?

You could try the film used to tint headlights/ tail lights. You can also get it in blue, just an idea. Good luck

I think the 'blue tint' you are referring to may be an auto-dim feature. The side mirrors on my tundra do this. They go a bluish green that helps to darken glare from headlights behind.

Not sure how it works, but when i park in my carport, i guess with the sun shining from behind and it being dark in front the mirrors all go bluish and dark for the first minute or two of driving and it slowly fades off.... i guess toyota didn't include auto dimming side mirrors on the 4runner, just the center rearview?

This! I used to get all kinds of glare from people driving behind me and I discovered that after I adjusted my mirrors to not be looking at the back of my car, I no longer had the glare issue. My wife still sets her mirrors up this way and, thus, I can't see anything out of her side mirrors when I get in.

Yea, I remember when I first read how to adjust properly, it took some getting used to at first, but i feel like my blind spots were eliminated for the most part and it made a world of difference. (ie: how you can see whats really there as opposed to just the side of your vehicle) great advice

I will set up my mirrors this way when I get a chance and report back after some night time driving.

For the people who do have them adjusted without glare, were directions in the link the ones you followed or close to it?

I've already changed mind. A bit odd actually for the moment, but I think I can get used too it. It already seems to have helped improve side visibility for sure.
