Silly question: Will hood fit inside?

Hello all,

Stupid question: I have the chance to get a hood and was wondering if it will fit inside? I'd rather not rent a truck/van to pick it up.

I haven't measured it yet (tailgate and hood), but wondering if anyone already has done this.

I would imagine it should fit diagonally inside with the rear seats down.

Just measured: hood is 61" (across) by 43" (long/front to back). The rear tailgate , diagonally measures 55". So in theory I can get it in. Gonna need some blankets (wife won't be happy).

How did you find the hood? I’d love to find one locally because shipping would be killer, as well as high probability of damage in transit if shipped.

I suppose I could try to fit the stock hood I took off back into my 4Runner. I took a moving blanket and wrapped the sport hood I bought then ratchet strapped it to the roof. Worked perfectly for a few hour drive.

You can try eBay/car-part.com/craigslist/facebook marketplace to find a hood, they're out there, just gotta find the right color in the right area.

If it brother you what someone would think then yes it would be tacky...at least in your mind, but if you like who you are then what does it matter what someone else thinks or that it's tacky in their mind!!

I did that years ago in my old chevelle. I wouldn't worry about what anybody thinks anyways.

It definitely fits in the back. Bring blankets to protect the trim.

Fully agreed with you gents and to me, this is the most practical way to transfer a hood. No need to monkey with protecting the inside trim, the hood and all that when you can just do this!

Sorry not to report back.

The place I got my hood was a business where they sell parts online and such, no work was allowed on their lot. Anyway, this hood ended up needed so much work that the body shop suggested I get a NEW one. That's what I did and was cheaper than the body shop working on a hood that had hidden rust on it.

But yeah, damn thing is heavy, for me, it would've required a second person.
