I can’t find any info anywhere on replacing the ignition cylinder on a 5th gen 4runner. Anyone here done this? There’s a couple threads out there on 4th and 3rd gen’s but nothing on 5th gen’s.
So far I’ve got part numbers:
Ignition Cylinder - $186.68, 69057-35240
Ignition Cylinder set with door lock set - $549.38, 690005-35A80
Sounds like I might be able to get a new ignition cylinder and get the cylinder tumblers set to match my existing keys so I don’t need to change the door locks as well.
If that’s right I think the job would be
1) replace ignition cylinder
2) reset cylinder tumblers (need locksmith)
3) ?? Would existing keys need to be reprogrammed to match the new cylinder?
Assuming that is correct does anyone has instructions on replacing the cylinder?
Other question is if I replace the cylinder I am guessing I’d need to get towed to a locksmith to get the tumblers reset and key programmed. I’m not sure I’d even be able to put it in neutral if the key isn’t programmed? The cylinder comes with a key, possibly I can get it in neutral with that key if it’s not programmed yet?
Thanks for any help.
