Silverstar Ultra's feedback

I know that a lot of guys use Silverstar headlight bulbs. I installed Silverstar Ultra's last week and they are awesome. They are very white and brighter than any other halogen bulbs out there. I have used others and none compare. The lifespan is the constant worry, but for $35 a pair on amazon.com, what is the big deal?

I had mine in my 4th gen for over 2years my wifes Rav4 for over a year and my new Trail Edition for about 6 months I wouldn't worry about life span at least that has been my luck not sure about others on here

Probably not such a big deal, but those bulbs are quite inconsistent when it comes to longevity. I still buy them myself at this point , but am considering an HID upgrade. Any of the "higher output" bulbs seem to have the same problem of "burning out" when you least expect them to. Sometimes they last for years. Sometimes just a few months.

I bought those Silverstars when they came out and put them in my old 4runner and my wife's car. I loved the light that they produced and thought they were a decent upgrade. After a few years, I was getting tired of replacing them so the last time my wife had a Silverstar go out, I just replaced it with a standard bulb and get this... I could not tell the difference at all. One Silverstar and one standard and no difference... looking at them and from the driver's seat. This was about 2 years ago so things may have changed.

Here's my results of having Silverstars.

The silverstars I had on my 94 Ranger seemed to work great. I just didn't like them in my 4Runner seemed to loose light output. So that's why I went HIR's instead.

I used the Silverstar Ultras and they seemed to be pretty good. But, after awhile I found that when it rained or snowed they were absolutely horrible. Couldn't see shiite with them and also got tired of their short life.
I switched to HIRs in the LB and fogs, so much better!
Of course, YMMV.

I used to run SilverStars in my old Explorer. I just recently put HIDs in my 4Runner. Trust me, do yourself a favor and just get HIDs if you want bright lights.

I have silverstars in my highs, lows and fogs. The secret to longevity with them is to never use the headlight shut off feature. Use the headlight switch and turn your headlights off when you park at night, and turn them on when after you start the car. What burns them out fast is when they come on when starting the car, because of the drain and voltage spikes when starting the car.

I've actually been waiting for them to go out for about 2 years to install my set of PNP HID's that I have for the truck, but never bothered since I've been waiting for one of the bulbs to burn out and they haven't.

I've used silverstar ultras on my old runner and they lasted much longer than in my wifes VW Golf. Just put them in my new runner until I have time to get the HID upgrade. I've found that the ultras lose light over time and I replace them once a year before they burn out.

I am at 20 months running Ultras on my highs, lows, and fogs. So far no burnouts. I agree with the post by 97BlackAckCL about manually turning on your own headlights.

I have had Ultras installed for over a year now. It seems they may last a bit longer than the regular Silverstars. I never touch my headlight switch, I just let the outo off feature do its job. I am seriously considering HIDs for my next headlights.

I've used the Silverstars (NOT the Ultras which weren't made at the time) in my previous 2nd gen and 3rd gen T4R's, the latter of which used the headlights for the DRL's. In that 3rd gen, I drove a lot at night in addition to daytime and the Silverstars lasted about 1 year. In my 4th gen that doesn't use the headlights for the DRL's, I have 2 1/2 years on the Ultras.

I think they're a decent improvement at 4100K over the stock bulbs at about 3500K. I tried a set of 5000K bulbs before the Ultras and couldn't see squat during dark, foggy or rainy conditions.
