Silverstars

Thanks to the excellent feedback I got from this site I decided to install Sylvania Silverstars on my 05 4R. Imagine my surprise when I went to buy them this evening and found the price at Advanced Auto parts to be $38.99 and there is a $10 rebate from Sylvania making them $28.99! So, I can't wait to see how they look. The rebate ticket says it ends September 3, 2005. If you are thinking of trying them, now would be a good time.

They are great bulbs but burn out too quickly. I've put the stockers back and I'm looking for a different brand now.

I think it's just hit and miss with these things, I had one burn out pretty much at 1 year, but the other one has been going fine for about a year and half now.

I think the first one would have burned out even quicker if I drove my Runner more. I really don't drive that much at night, so really they didn't have very many 'hours' on it.

I wish HID kits were cheaper..

this is where its at: Xenon/H.I.D. Headlight Bulbs

not those exact ones but get the right set for your specific 4runner and i you will not be unhappy, i went through so many lights trying to find a set with the xenon hid look and i started with silverstars, which was a big mistake. they werent all that freat, then i tried the lights that looked cool and on the front they say "COOL BLUE". so i figured hey they must have that blue tint to them like im looking for, nope, they were also just as bad as the silverstars. then i went on ebay and apparently vary few companies have come up with ways to get the xenon look while its still legal so someone on here suggested the eurodezigns to me and i looked them up and bought them for $1.99 figuring i cant really go wrong with 1.99 and i installed them as soon as i got them and i was filled with jubilation as these were exactly what i am looking for. anyways, i still have them in today and bought them back in febuary so i deff got my moneys worth.

...that could be the longest 5 sentences ever. I felt completely out of breath after reading all that, like I just ran up 10 flights of stairs with a piano on my back.

Thanks for the info though....

hah sorry about that i guess punctuation is everything! just wanted to express how i thought the silverstars were a waste of money :D

My experience with the Silverstars for the past several days is generally positive, but I didn't hold out any great expectations. Afterall, the headlights on my '05 4R are pretty good. The only way to really make a difference is with HID. I think Toyota has done all that can be done with DOT legal Halogens, short of going to factory HID. I think eventually most cars and trucks of this caliber will have HID. My next move is pretty simple. I can go with add-on HID foglights on the front for $300+ and really put out some light. It is sure easier than a retrofit and cheaper too. I do think the Silverstars are a little brighter and a little whiter, so I'll keep them.
