Silverstars

I will be doing a projector retrofit a little later on. I don't want to put hid's in my stock housing because I don't like the look as good without the projector lenses but I want some more light output. Does anyone have any pics with Silverstars and are they worth the $40 or $50? I have heard good things about them but have never tried them. Thanks in advance

I've had my silverstar ultras for a year now, with no complaints. You can buy they for like $20-$30 on Ebay.

i second the real OSRAMS nightbreaker +90, 10 percent brighter & put the light pattern wider & farther down the road, or the PHILLIPS.

Are you and Elton talking about the regular Silverstars or the Ultras? I have the Ultras.
I have an 01 runner and have my DRL on and i don't know how to deactivate them. I had the Silverstar Ultra and they burt out pretty quick. I thought i had a bad set so i bought another pair and they're still going and its been about 6 months. But i'mstill not happy with them becuase i want more light output So i searched online for HID conversion kits found one for $70.00 I haven't installed them yet. I'm kinda weary about it though becuase my headlights aren't projectors. What do you guys suggest, install them or sell it on craigslist?

Search for how to disable the DRL, it's really popular.

Many people here would advise you to only install the HIDs if you do a retrofit, but that is expensive. There are also a number of people that have installed HIDs with minimal glare. It's really just up to you. $70 seems pretty cheap for HIDs.

Yeah they were cheap originally they were $199. I guess i'll install the HID without the retrofit and hope for the best. I'll take before and after pics. i was told that if i disable the DRL an idiot light will come on, eitherr the brake light or the high beam. is that true?

I vouch for the Silverstar Ultras.

I have had them for about a year now, no issues. I even got water and mud in my right headlight before, still good.

Although really, if you want light output, I'd really rather have the projectors. I get bothered driving my 4Runner after driving the Mercedes at my work with their fancy headlights. It feels like I can't see anything. Even my 05 C230K lights up the road amazingly, and those are halogens.

Man, if only I hadn't run out of time and money, I'd do a retrofit. It seems so much more worth it. That, and it's very unique!

Nope. I've never heard of that. Lots of people have disabled the DRLs.

ive had the ltra's also for about a year. no issues either, also disabled my DRL's.

IMO, your HID's are gonna be bright, but too bright for oncoming traffic. expect to get pulled over. id love to have hid's, but you should do it right.

I had a set of silverstars on m old truck and my wife's old camry. The ones on my truck lasted just over 4 years when 1 burned out. The other 3 (headlights and fogs) were still going strong when I let the truck go. My wife's camry they are still working 5 years later.

I've disabled my DRL's and my high beam light is on :wtf:
No biggie though, don't really notice it that much.

I'm doing fine with my HID's on my Runner, though it does seem like a lot of people on this board are against it.
