simple shock removal question..i think

Ok, 1st off...yes i have searched but this might be a slam dunk simple answer.
Tomorrow I plan on putting in my front spacers along with FJ springs and struts.

Can I take the entire shock/spring assembly off WITHOUT a spring compressor and then use the compressor to squeeze and remove the spring?
I am only using a 1/2" spacer with the spring/shock set up.

I think swamp rider misread your question. Yes, you can remove the whole spring assembly (and that's the Toyota procedure) from the truck and then use the spring compressor when it is off the truck. The thread that swamp rider linked to is good for the A-arm leverage technique which you will still need to use to get the assembly out.

I did all this (OME & Camburg) in my driveway with out a spring compressor. It's so tight I don't know how you could get anyghing around the spring and get it to fit in place?

Not too hard - just take your time, liquid wrench is your friend, take some before pix just in case and Lock-tight everything. A third hand would make faster work of it as well.

The spring fit in fine when I used some leverage on the lower arm but it was the shock that was a PIA. I compressed the shock right before I put the 2 in and with some motivation it fit. I did mar up the bottom some of the shock some.

Getting my ducks in a row

I'm planing on installing the FJ springs with Billstein 5100's. Reviewing all the information on this board as well as the FJ board I came across this:

Note the alignment of the top plate studs in relation to the lower shock
hole Before compressing the coils, These must be aligned the same prior to
uncompressing the coils and reinstalling on the vehicle.

Can anyone clarify what this means?

well having just done this yesterday with FJ springs and shocks, my educated guess is that it means, just put it back the same way it came out. Take photos as you go, they do come in handy as you put it all back together and then go to the other side.
