Single disc to 6 disc swap

Personally, I wouldn't bother.
That said, my SE came with the 6CD, tho I don't plan on using it.
I inherited my daughters old iPod and I'm happy as can be, especially with the 4runner audio input plug inside the console box.
Unless your upgrading to better sound, I can't see changing out your single CD player just to load more CDs.

And no, it's not as easy as you might think. There are a lot of parts that you will need to swap out and it can get a bit pricey unless you trade components...

Thanks sharp4runr. I did do a search, but didn't find that thread. I did read that people had issues swapping out but was hoping that it changed for 06, but its not looking good. I think I will check at the dealer and verify that the panels are different for with or without changer. If this won't work, then it's plan B, maybe a Scion HU and hook up Sirius to that.

Well, I'm bringing back this thread because I may have got some bad information. I was at the dealer today getting the oil changed and went out on the lot and looked at the 4Runners. They had an SR5 with the basic stereo parked next to an SE with the non-JBL 6-disc changer, and the way they fit in the dash was identical. Both had the "recessed" type of fit. I could see no difference in the plastic piece that surrounds the stereo. The JBL stereos that I saw had a "flush" type of fit, with an obvious difference. Oh well, the 6-disc changer that was on e-bay sold a while back ($30) and I already have my Scion 1807 ($38 shipped off e-bay) although I haven't installed it yet.
Now that I have these MP3 CD's figured out, it kind of makes the changer unnecessary, in fact I like them better with the artist, song title, etc. display. Bottom line is, Momma's happy, although she is not really wanting me to install the Scion radio because "I just got all the buttons figured out" on her current stereo.

06 4runner stereo
My 06 has the 6 disc changer that is in a recessed setting. It's the non JBL syn (6speaker no amp version). It plays CDs, WMA and MP3s. They must have changed the set up for 06 with the flush mount and recessed mount....for the better bc a standard double din unit should fit in nicely.
