I'm currently waiting on my Shrockworks bumper and ordered it with the single hoop. Now I'm wondering if I should get 3 hoops. To be honest, I don't plan on going through any heavy brush so my headlights don't really need the protection but I also don't want to need it and not have it. I need some decision help for your guys and possibly a picture of a single hoop since the only ones on the Shrockworks site are the three loop or no loops.

the hoops do serve a purpose, protection from branches and other obstacles on a trail for your headlights, and almost everyone who has hoops on a bumper mounts lights too them, and if you're navigating steep downhills, some of the more hardcore offroaders add a stinger to the front

Hoops are a huge PIA when doing maintenance.
I cursed having to do any type of engine work on my old 1997 FZJ80 Land Cruiser on 35"s with an ARB front bumper. Nowhere to stand easily on the bumper and hell on the knees climbing on top to access the engine.
If you don't need the hoops, I'd take a pass.

Another use for the headlight loops - kayak front tie down and limb risers (for those folks in densely vegetated areas)
Shit guys. So the general consensus seems to be full hoops or no hoops.....outstanding. I'll admit I am car engine illiterate so I'm not worried about getting in there to fix anything but you do raise a very valid point chitown40 and I don't want it to get in the way of a mechanic. Who gets 1 hoop then?

This is my viewpoint as well. Maybe because I spend most of my time in the Rocky Mountains or desert where trees and underbrush aren't an issue but IMO hoops are unneccessary in most applications and adding more weight than you need to the front end is a bad idea.
There's this, too. I had a single hoop on my '99 and it did make it a PITA to access the engine compartment. Not terrible, mind you, but not great, either.
That's why when I had the bumper built for my '07, I specified "no hoop." Don't need one and don't want the weight. The increase in approach angle was significant, as is the ability to mount a winch, and of course having shackle mounts on the front end.

You folks claiming to not want to add extra weight...the hoops only add roughly 15lbs...that's not enough to justify weight reduction unless you're road racing the 4runner...
I personally vote 3 hoop as they are great for city and offroad protection...like stated above, they add more mounting options if carrying a load on top, protect from the hypothetical animal encounter, and great to hold onto if you're busting around the outside of your vehicle on a trail...the worst thing about them is they make your 4runner look motley...

To me it's personal preference and your intended use, as far as looks go everybody's going to have a different opinion. I like the looks of the single hoop

i agree with 3 hoops. i ordered mine a few months ago and went with the 3 hoop option. just waiting on it to show up any day now. i agree that 3 hoops offer more protection from brush and crazy wildlife you may encounter (both of which i have to deal with in my neck of the woods) and as stated already, i agree that unnessesary weight added is just no good, but when purchasing something already as heavy as a steel front bumper and winch, i don't feel that the little bit of added weight from the 3 hoops is even worth mentioning.
