Single or Dual Exhaust?

Not looking for a poll, just suggestions. I need to get my exhaust redone and I thought I might as well redo the whole thing with a new muffler and piping. I'm thinking of a flowmaster but the guy at the shop said he thinks magnaflows sound better on 4runners. Any thoughts?

Also, I'm trying to decide whether or not to get a dual output muffler and putting to pipes out the side or sticking with just one. Is there any benefit to this other that coolness? Not that coolness isn't enough to do it. Thanks!

i just installed the 18in. magnaflow and im very happy with the results but i went with a turn down before the rear axle sooooo its burly sounding. ha i too went to several shops and they all suggested magnaflow because it doesnt have the baffling just packing.....but you know it all is just a matter of opinion.
 
If I got another muffler besides the Vortex I would probalby get the Flowmaster 40.

If you get a dual exhuast get the pipes to run out the back, one on each side of the hitch. If not just get a nice chrome tip for the side exit.
 
you really want find a true 'dual exhaust' probably more along the lines of a cat-back system like i have.

Right on either side of the hitch, tight as hell!!
 
Do some youtubing, there's a couple vids there. I'd go with a flowmaster with a dual exhaust set up, like sloan. Sound Bada$$, look bada$$.
 
I had a flowmaster on my 4runner earlier but it simply got too loud. I now have a mangaflow with a resonator on before the muffler. If I were to do a dual exhaust i would do two 2" pipes all the way back with dual fairly small magnaflows (or even flowmasters). This will greatly increase the flow.
 
It is a bit costly for a looks only mod (like the hood scoop) since the HP gain will be no different than just upgrading to a better flowing cat-back but you will be adding more weight with the extra pipe negating any gains.

Jason's pipe is just a faux pipe on that side and for the look effect that is the cheapest way to go but a true dual exhaust would be cool if you've got money to blow but I personally would go for a beneficial mod.
 
Thanks for all the replies! I think I've decided to go single exhaust for financial purposes. And in order to get any kind of performance benefits from a dual I'd have to spend quite a bit of money. And I'll probably go with the Magnaflow. I appreciate the opinions though!
 
Where you gonna put your spare if you get dual? Seems like such a pain getting dual exhaust unless you get a mock second tail pipe.

And even then, on cold mornings people might wonder why there's exhaust pouring out of one pipe and none from the other.
 
Truck is in the shop right now getting a 14" Magnaflow. Sticking with the single exhaust. It seemed like too much of a hassle to go dual. I'll let you guys know how it turns out!
 
It's done and it sounds pretty good. A little over $350 for a Magnaflow with all new piping and a SS tip. I'm happy with it.

wow i only paid 210 for my cat-back flowmaster with new piping and two 3 inch chrome tips


glad you got something you liked though. you should put up a sound clip or a video or something.

P.S. Everything's always more expensive in WA state. Bunch of yuppies up here.

sounds and looks nice. if your happy with the loudness be glad you got that muffler because i'd say the flowmaster is probably twice if not three times as loud as that.
