Siping MT Tires

Has anyone siped their MT tires?

I'm looking for the pros and cons.

I recently picked up a set of 255/85/16 BFG KM2 tires.

I don't do any hardcore offroading.

I mainly use my rig for camping and road trips.

I do live in Washington, so I do deal with rain and occasional snow.

Appreciate any and all help.

I sipe all my MT tires, have for years. Don't seem to notice any cons. I usually just get the centre done. If you do the full width of the tread, the edges might start to tear.

My friend siped his MT and its been something I wanted to do as well… haven’t got around to it.

He does a lot of wheeling and rock crawling, more than me, and it seems to increase the potential for minor lug damage. He has small chips and bits that have broken off in random places. I suspect it might be from wheel spin on rocks. Not significant or anything to stop me from considering doing it because he uses the same tires on wet and snow trips and he says it makes a huge difference.

Did I read this right? Are you asking about MT tires or AT tires? The BFG KO2s are factory siped and do great as an all around AT tire. Here on this side of Washington, I had excellent wear and traction with mine. I did have a vehicle with Toyo MTs, and did sipe them( Les Shwab) and made a big difference in the snow. No problems with the rubber tread chipping! So, I would sipe MTs but not the KO2s. Just my opinion. Vance.

Read your post wrong! By the way, I bought a set of BFG, KM3s last fall and love them! We will see how they wear! A little more noise on the highway than the KO2s, but that was expected! Vance. And yes, will be siped soon! Vance

Sell them and get a better suited tire. These pizza cutters generally ride like garbage too.

Awesome size horrible load range. They belong on a dually hauling a gooseneck trailer full of pigs. These front ends just don't fare very well with all that weight and harshness.

A little noisy, yeah. But drives straight as an arrow and can steer with one finger

Generally pretty skeptical of these claims. It's similar to exhaust setups. I had people say the JBA exhaust wasn't too loud. Turns out they were all deaf once I started it up after the install. Compared to what these came with from factory they are pretty harsh. But if OP is down for it then... enjoy!

Love my km3’s as well, maybe my ko2’s were really unevenly worn/out of balance but the km3’s are much more quiet than the ko2’s for me.
