Sirius Satelite Poor Signal?

For any one that has a Sirius satelite radio, have you noticed an issue with a weak signal? My Sirius radio keeps displaying "aquiring signal" for the last week or so. The radio is not working in areas where it always has. The closer you get to populated areas the worse the problem becomes.

I also heard a rumor that the FCC adjusted the frequency of satelite so that the terestrial radio signal "steps" on the satelite signal causing the receiver to display "aquiring signal". The rational for doing this is because terestrial radio cannot compete with satelite and so to level the playing field the FCC tweaked the satelite frequency. Even though satelite is a pay service the FCC still regulates this medium because the airwaves are still utilized by satelite and the FCC regulates any medium that uses the airwaves. Sounds too conspiritorial but you never know.

What are your thoughts?

When this happens to me, it is almost always the cord has become crimp in the door. I install and remove mine everyday in the business vehicle.
Another thing you can try is to slightly jiggle the antenna cord where it comes into the receiver's input area. The Streamer GT version with the side inputs are notorious for this.

When I install the unit into my 4Runner, I simply lay the antenna in the center of the front dash where the windowshield meets. I use a cut piece of non-slip foam to hold it in place. I traveled cross country without significant signal loss.

I haven't heard about the FCC thing but I wouldn't doubt it. I've noticed that nearly every FM frequency is being filled by new stations; yet more people are leaving free FM for sat radio everyday. I do not see where the profit to build new radio stations is coming from. I also noticed that in the San Jaoquin valley, the new hispanic FM stations are popping up by leaps and bounds. You can avoid the FM signal interference by installing an FM modulator for direct imput from your Sat unit. That way you will never be bothered by an strong FM station again. Good luck.
