sirius satellite

im in the process of hooking up a sirius radio in my 4runner. im caught between one of the portable players or an in dash player. one of my major concerns is a clean install. i like the idea of being able to take it out and use it in the house or boombox, but i don't want wires and clutter on my dash. any suggestions or pictures of sirius installs?

I mounted mine above the cup holders. I had to cut a hole in the console, the part that folds down. But I was able to order a new one for around $30, so I can always put it back to normal. I think it worked out very well, and I can take the radio out with me.

i like the way that you did your install. does the sportster need to be plugged into the ac outlet or cigarette lighter. this is a concern of mine since i use a radar detector (heavy foot) and sometimes cell phone charger.

I just finished putting in my XM Delphi/MyFi in my T4R.
Few things I learned and Im not sure if your going to have the same issue with your Sirus or not?
I installed the component from PIE to utilize the additional CD changer input. This caused a little bit of an issue since the power for my XM and out-put to the radio were so close together - I started to receive some interfierence when it was playing. The Ohm factor was playing thought. Unfortunately, I had to revert back to the tape player :-( All-in-all, it sounds a lot better then FM Modulation and the Ohm's from using the PIE adapter.

Like I said - not sure you will have the same issues with Sirus - but wanted to pass it along.

I like the way those Sirus models install. Since my XM is portable - its a little bigger. I purchased a Cell Phone mounth for $40 and mounted directly to that. The only wire you see is the one going to the tape player since the rest run down the bracket and behind the glovebox.

I hardwired my Sirius in. Basically I connected the car plug into the same circuit as the 12v outlet. I didn't want to give up my outlet. It worked really nice because there are no wires showing.

Hey scott,

The new sirius MP3 player and Satellite radio receiver is coming out in december. It comes with everything.

To get the boombox removable setup, I'd go with the sporster.. or sporster R... same thing...


To make it clean... get this bracket off Bracketron. Very simple install... makes it look clean by having you run all the wires through the glove compartment area. Be careful and if you ever have any questions let me know, I install two of these a day, and spend tons of hours always looking for areas to install satellite radio.

thanks for all your input. i made an appointment to have the sirius sportster installed. before i even got to ask some questions the guy at the audio shop told me everything i wanted to hear. they use the panavasive mount and hard wire the system instead of plugging it into the cigarette lighter . he said its a very clean install with no wires showing. once installed(nov. 2) ill post some pics.
