Sirius XM trial over, it locked, then unlocked!

My Sirius XM radio 3 month trial was to expire February 1st. I have barely used the satellite radio, but when I tried today it went to channel 1 and basically said it was not authorized. I could only get channel 1 and 107... So then I pressed the folder button to change the category and all the channels became unlocked and everything worked again. I'm wondering if there's a security bug in the 4R radio because it would be quite silly if you could just unlock the channels with a simple press of the folder button.

They have free weekends every couple of months when they turn on old out of subscription radios. They just had one recently. It will seem to work normally but can't get all the stations such as #15. You can get lucky and find an old one that still works sometimes but it's generally first generation Sirius radios. I don't know of it happening to newer ones unless you find one that has a lifetime subscription.

I'm tempted to get subscribe to SiriusXM but two things are holding me back. First, the sound quality of the satellite radio is horrendous...reminiscent of a tin can and string. Secondly, the cost....the premium plan for Canada is $19.99 plus $4.00 if you want internet streaming as well. Is Howard worth it?? LOL

Is this your experience with the stock head unit in your 4Runner?

Maybe...I just need to adjust it. Regular FM sounds decent enough but the satellite...like I wrote earlier....Ughhhh....just plain bad.

Sorry, i have an aftermarket head unit. That could be why.

Zero complaints about Sirius from me, sounds fine. Can't believe I'm actually paying for it, didn't think I would. Once my trial expired, it was hard to listen to regular stations.

Yeah im not too happy with the quality sometimes either.

I'm considering not renewing it this time. Quality is terribly compressed. Ack! Who am I kidding, i'm probably gonna renew it.

80s on 8 makes it all worth it to me. I will definitely renew when my trial runs out, but I have been told to let it lapse so they will start sending you mail with better terms than they currently offer. I wonder who cracks first, me or them if I let it lapse. Maybe I will get lucky and will have it forever for free.

Here's one for you.

I cancelled the subscription on a plug-n-play system in my other vehicle a few months ago.

Two or three weeks after the cancellation, out of habit, I plugged in the XM and powered it up. To my surprise it worked. I figured they just hadn't sent the cancellation signal to the receiver yet.

Now, 4 months later, the XM system is still working.

I called XM to tell them of this issue because I didn't want them coming back and charging me. Long story short, the radio is cancelled on their end and there is nothing more to be done.

Did some research on the interwebs and found some posts where, if you're the not-so-honest-type, you call XM and cancel the service. Upon cancellation, XM sends out a signal to your receiver for a few days up to a few weeks. If you don't try to use the XM unit, the unit never receives the signal. XM stops sending the cancellation signal after some time and if you power it up, you have XM. Weird.

In my case the XM station sounds better than FM .

Also, from time to time I get special rate from XM for three months ($2.99/month).
