skid plate options

the front skid on my runner is toast. i'm looking to replace it. i assume they were the same on all 4th gens? so as long as i find one from an 03 to an 09 i should be good right? what are my options if I wanna go aftermarket?

Downey has a front aftermarket skid plate. It is super strong and thick and probably the same price or cheaper than an OEM one. It is about $200 (US). Not sure but it might need a little tweaking ot fit. Also, no hole to access the oil drain.

Bud Built has full aftermarket skid plates for our 4Runner. They are top quality, fit well, have a oil drain hole, great service from Bud but the cost is outrageous.

If all you are looking for is the engine skid, Downey looks like a good deal.

hmmmmmm downey appears to be out of business. I do like the look of the budbuilt stuff, but my Runner is a pavement pounder, not a wheeler, $300 seems a bit steep for me. i think i'll be looking for a stock replacement.

any other options to consider?

To replace your stock engine skid is actually two Bud Built pieces, so more like $600. I agree, way too expensive (and heavy) for mainly street driving

Nothing else aftermarket. Too bad about Downey. Try finding an OEM skid used for from a junk yard. Getting it new from a dealer is probably a total rip off. Mine got mangled, and when I passively asked the service guy at teh dealer what replacement would cost, and he told me a lot more than it was worth. One day when I have $2000 with nothing better to spend it on I might get the full Bud Built set up.

mine is cashed too... huge dent in the middle from off roading.... is it bad to leave dented... i dont want or even have 600 to spend......
