Skid plate - way to go!

The other night, I was driving on the Mass Pike in some heavy traffic. As normal, I was in the left lane... when the guy in front of me ran over a casing from a truck tire which was in the middle of the lane, and kicked it right at my truck. I call it a casing, which may not be correct. It was like the whole tread had separated from the body of the tire, like a big flat rubber donut. Anyway, I had no time to react, which is probably goodness, and this thing bounced in front of my 4Runner, and hit the underside of the front bumper, and then banged along the underside of the 4Runner before coming out the back. It really made some good noise doing all this, but the truck seemed unaffected by it. I pulled into the next rest area and checked it out. There was a big imprint on the underside of the front bumper where the thing had hit, and I could see imprints on the front skid plate, too. I have to think that without the skid plates, this thing could have ripped out the exhaust system, or the drive train, or some other things on the underside of the truck. So, not only am I even happier that I have a 4Runner, I'm VERY happy it has skid plates.

glad skid plate worked for you. did you note what material the skid plate is made of - metal or plastic? i read somewhere the skid on the 4th gen runner isnt as beefy as those on tundra or tocoma.

I dragged my underbelly quite a few times off roading and never had a problem and served the purpose intended.

If I was rock crawling I'm sure it would be a totally different story.
