kingbiscuit said:do the 1998 4runners have stock skid plates? Are they the real deal or just for looks?
YotaFun said:and the one Ron was talking about is one that is just for looks, and iirc that particular skid came on the 99+ Highlander/sport edition Runners and some of the Tacos.

kingbiscuit said:Looks like you have a 99, sounds like the 98's have a better skidplate. Can anyone confirm or deny?

The 99+ had a tiny style skid right under the front bumper. that one is worthless.
I have landed on rocks with my stock skids and have been fine.
RonMAIDEN said:Actually that plate didn't appear on the 4Runners til '02 but I retrofitted a Tacoma version's brackets to make mine fit and yes,it's strictly for looks.
I've scuffed my stock ones up a bit and if I did more serious roading I'd upgrade to a set of Bud's.
