Im looking at getting a skid plate however i was curious how far under the truck do they extend, does it just cover the front air dam?

probably more for looks, my stock one has rusted and i had to cut the bolts off just to change the oil, i figured might as well buy a brand new one with new bolts and everything.

My factory front rusted trough on the passenger side. I mean all the way trough in one spot (about size of a pancake). The rest of it looks brand new. What gives? Is it bad design? Is A/C dumping water on that area? I ordered new one from Toyota for $230.00, but will that one last? I'd hate to replace body parts every 5 years, it sure can get $$$. I plan to protect new one with some bed liner on engine side of the plate.
