Skid Plates

I have noticed that my skid plates are scratched up and starting to rust.

I want to remove the front 2 skid plates and refinish them. What I'm thinking is wire brush them or use some sort of rust remover then recoat the bottom of them with some sort of paint or metal protector.

Does anyone have any experience doing this?

What would the best product to apply to the skids after I clean them?

Get a wire brush attachment for a cordless drill and use that to clean them up. Sand the ruff spots lightly, clean with acetone and then prime it with some Rustoleum and paint it with some flat black Rustoleum or look into powder coating or POR-15.

Let them rust away and get some aftermarket skid plates. The skid plates that come standard are more like foil than skid plates...
